I'm aware of the Lions/Basketball thread, but I wanted this to get it's own thread.
We've won the tip.
Zone defense is looking really good so far. Doing a really good job of getting boards.
Where is Creighton?
Omaha, NE. The only reason I know that is from them playing in new Rosenblatt Stadium for baseball.
im watching this game from omaha. these people are ape shit for creighton bball
I lived in Nebraska for some years and Nebraska Football is everything... but because their Bball team is so bad (No NCAA since the Tyron Lue days, I believe)... Creighton has found a nice niche.
very true. i went to a creighton game in the qwest center a few weeks back. its every bit as big a production as kentucky bball when i used to live in lexington. pretty cool
Not only is Nebraska going through an NCAA drought, it's actually never won an NCAA tournament game.
That was sick backdoor from Novak. So was following that up with a steal and easy lay up.
I give thanks to formerlyanonymous.
is looking more crisp and effective than it ever has. This is exciting stuff
They've yet to play the 1-3-1 in this game. They are playing a trapping 2-3.
they are everywhere on defense. looks good early
Harris wanted that lob so bad.
Novak F'in rules.
THe 1-3-1 gives teams serious fits. Belien is a bad man.
I know there's maybe a few hundred people there, but does it seem like a pro Creighton crowd?
I was thinking the same thing, but it could be general rooting for the underdog too.
The Jays have been executing the crossing pass really well. We need to cut down on the fouls. That was 3 within 2 minutes.
Stu can't make any shot in the paint ever. I don't think ive ever seen it.
Our guys can stop getting blocked any time now, ime.
manny and sims have been no shows thus far offensively. they've got way more energy than us right now.
there we go. take it to the hole manny. we need you to be aggressive in stretches like this.
Manny is leading the game in points. The guy covering him is playing really well, really tight. The Creighton full court defense seems to be giving us some trouble.
We need to either get hot from 3 or find another way to get penetration. The Jays have been solid on defending the inside.
Novak F'in rules.
BOOM. Sims'd and Novak'd.
Next year I think Novak is going to be the guy that fans of every other team in the conference absolutely hates. This year it's still Chris Kramer but he's done after this season. It'll be nice to have the dominant conference Hustle Dork on our team.
I just wanted to say that. Him to Chris Martin is a gulf as wide as the Pacific. It helps that he actually watches the game he's announcing.
novak's playing his arse off.
is anyone else getting a bit annoyed with llp?
good lord, nice turnover llp. get him off the court please.
Am I the only one that thinks it's embarressing that the color commentator is confusing Michigan's 2-3 zone for the 1-3-1?
I know it's an easy mistake to make, but the 1-3-1 would feature a guard running the baseline with Sims/Gibson playing at the FT line until the ball moves to the corners/baseline.
I was thinking the same thing throughout the first half, but I figured my lack of solid basketball knowledge had me missing something.
Sims has been playing at the free throw line most of the time and there usually has been a shorter guy under the hoop running around from what I've seen.
True, but Sims/Gibson are still matching up to the weakside post players. That's a responsibility that would fall onto the last "1" in the 1-3-1. Like I mentioned, the big giveaway that the team is in the 1-3-1 is that you'll have a guard exclusively on the baseline. That definitely isn't what they are running right now.
That is a TERRIBLE offensive foul call, and now we have a 3 point lead at the half instead of 6 or more. Huge call.
llp was out of control and he pushed off.
That wasn't out of control. Out of control is what got him into the corner.
And if that's a push-off, then they could call an offensive foul on every single play. The guy did not have position at all, it's not an offensive foul unless LLP puts the arm in his neck or face. You could tell even the announcer thought it was BS.
So I'm guessing you moonlight as a ref?
He was clearly out of control bringing the ball up, but he gathered himself and the ref made the foul call simply because Young was playing energetic defense and the crowd was urging him on.
Talk about a ref getting caught up in the excitement of the moment. Terrible.
Holy crap that was a despicable call on LLP.
Where does the NCAA find these clowns? And how are they never held responsible for being horrible at their jobs? If they worked in any other industry, they'd be fired (unless they worked for the Free Press).
They get their notes from Ed Hightower, obviously.
Pretty questionable reffing calls to enter the break. Overturning possesion because the other coach bitched? And that offensive foul was ridiculous. Dude slipped.
In fairness, I thought Gibson slipped when a Creighton player was called for a trip earlier. Both were bad calls.
Rule of thumb is that refs are uniformly awful and favor neither team. As a result of the last few minutes of the half, we should get some very nice calls in the second half.
and pressure of the season. Let's hope well.
We gave them way to many easy looks and cuts in the first half.
Gotta cut down on that.
Man is Peedi looking GREAT! We need stops now.
We need to get the ball to Manny more. We have a complete mismatch but we're not utilizing it.
LLP is keeping us alive right now. We need to slow this game down and get some rebounds. Speaking of which, a great play by Manny to get the board and keep the ball.
I believe LLP is technically on fire now. Start firing the half court shots. They'll go in!
I don't know much about bball I guess but these refs seem very poor. They are giving no calls inside.
Creighton is playing out of their heads right now, we just need to ride this out a little bit-
They have not had an answer for Sims in the post, and Manny's not hitting the jumper so he needs to attack the basket
How does manny never get fouled in the paint?
Manny has not looked good handling the ball today. He is racking up the TOs. There needs to be more inside out with Desean and the perimeter guys.
do we keep missing FTs?
We're not playing well enough to overcome these bad shots and missed free throws.
stu douglas? argghh
It seems like we are just trying to draw fouls on every shot which either results in a bad shot with no call, or we get to the line where we are 50%. Not going to get it done.
I always have trouble explaining to people back home why our cheer is "lets go blue" when our uniforms are neon yellow..
when we're playing against a team that wears blue.. it just makes it awkward..
If our uniforms look neon yellow on your TV, your contrast is off.
no it's not.. I've noticed the same thing live.. that uniform isn't maize; it's bright yellow/neon yellow.. but that's an entirely different discussion.
look at the different shades of yellow and be honest with yourself.. it's closer to pure yellow/lemon than it is to maize
WOW! Manny a board and a dime from ANOTHER triple-double.
"He of the skinny calves" HAHA!
free throws ....kill me now
wow, really manny, 0-2 at the line with the game on the line.
gotta make these!
Could we defend that last play any worse???? Why can't we just get a win without it being a near disaster in any sport
You don't want to foul, but you still want to DEFEND!!!! UGH!!!
Thank god he made those last two..
ranked team usually wins OTs.. we'll see..
so much bull...argh frustrating to say the least
edit: oh hey! I reached 20 mgopoints. w000t (please do not negbang me)
I guess you haven't been around long enough to know that mentioning those things in a post never ends with the posters desired effect. In fact it usually has a reciprocal relationship. Just so you know.
We could have replaced our 5 players with five maize pylons on that last play....actually, a pylon may have even got in the way a little bit.
my buddy was fond of saying that you could replace later-career Larry Murphy with a traffic cone and accomplish the same thing.
take it over M! lets go blue
thanks for whoever negbanged me. classy.
manny got dirty in the OT
Fear them thin legs! I say fear them
I'd like to see him nail in one more assist for the trip
if i was a fan of any other team, but I effing love him
For some reason, scrappy, undersized white guys aren't nearly as annoying in basketball as they are in baseball.
Somebody get me a Novak jersey right now!
celebratory posbangs for everyone!
Does anyone else feel like we got a lot of help from the refs at near the end of regulation?
Looks a lot like a young JB to me.
I think JB and Altman are good friends and talk often. That's probably why their systems are similar
one more rebound, please.
Yeah, Manny has had a rough day handling the ball, to say the least. But shots aren't falling.
M bball with B. Graham to big ten: Can't fuck with me!
go blue! watch out Big Ten. and yes looking at you sparty
First, way to finish strong down the stretch.
Second, this game has exposed a lot of things that we need to work on.
...defensively, way too much dribble penetration/guys popping up wide open underneath the basket.
...offensively, free throws need to be worked on. way too many stagnant/low energy streaks as well. when our defense isn't creating opportunities, we had nothing but deep balls. manny and sims have got to be more aggressive at these points. can't always rely on the three.
I think we showed that we've got that grittiness from last year but also i think that we have the talent to beat good teams-
A couple things though, some poor decisions on shots at the stagnant points in the games-
Manny did not look great but did enough, and if Perry/Novak/Douglass are going to contribute offense, we've got a pretty bright outlook this year I think
Will we get anyone help us with some size (other than Gibson?) I hear about Morgan and Cronin but wonder if we will ever see those guys
Morgan is still hurt and will redshirt. Cronin looks significantly stiffer and less athletic than Gibson.
ESPN.com tells me Manny has a triple double, damnnnnnn so close!
Excellent victory though gentlemen, enjoy your thanksgiving.
that was rough game. nice job battling back.
Hopefully U-M plays Xavier next round.
Phew. That was close.
Came alive with about two minutes left in the game...and then played solidly through OT. So it goes.
So close to the triple double too.
I thought we played at about 70 percent. Definitely rusty. Boy did we miss a guy like C.J Lee, but a good start to this tourney.
Well.. as I said earlier.. the better team very rarely loses the OT.. that goes for most sports..
Creighton did more than us to win this.. but the score's the score.. I'll take that.
Why am I thoroughly enjoying these old spice commercials?
Wonder if they serve milksteaks there?
Do they serve them with raw jellybeans or is that just a philly thing?
was anyone else as surprised as me to hear how positive beilein was in his post game presser? i thought hed be more critical. didnt seem like we played that well at all. at least by our standards. wins a win though i guess.
