Basketball team donations

Submitted by CaliUMfan on

This may be considered soliciting and if this is not ok, I appologize and feel free to take it down but I am coaching an inner city high school basketball team South Los Angeles and we need to raise money for transportation to games for the 2016/2017 season. I figured since it is sports and charity related, it was worth a shot throwing it up here and seeing if we could get any support.

If I get any kids that end up being recruited by Michigan, I'll be sure to encourage them to do the right thing  ;)

Two different amazing theme parks. I prefer Disney, rides are less intense, but there is much more of a emotional attachment to Disney.

Universal is thrill centric, but I don't have a connection to it.

I am speaking from somebody without any particular emotional attachment to either.  To me, Universal was like the "new model."  Disney was the T-800 and Universal was the T-1000.  I kind of felt like a lot of the Disney stuff was kind of dated and "played out" for lack of a better expression.  I also thought that service, concessions, and shops were far superior at Universal.  I actually thought that Disney Hollywood Studios was the best Disney Park that I went to including the Magic Kingdom.

However, I was looking at everything through my son's eyes and he was 8 years old.  If we would have gone when he was 4 or 5 I would probably feel differently and don't even know if we would have gone to Universal at all.

I would say you're in the minority on Studios being the best. It's not even gonna be called studios anymore, they're renaming it.

Studios, when completed, is going to be crazy popular. Magic Kingdom reaches capacity within an hour of park opening during Christmas and New Years. Having Star Wars should help the log jam at Magic Kingdom during busy periods.

I am a fan of Epcot. Give me Test Track, Living with the land and all the alcohol in World Showcase, and it's the best.

most people look at me funny but it is the park I enjoyed the most.  Hit up the Star Wars training, Star Wars ride, Tower of Terror, Rockin Roller Coaster.  Lot of fun.  Also, did not have to take a tram to get to the bus to get to the lot to get to the monorail to get to the train to get to the cart to get to the park.  That was also a plus.   Like I said though, my thoughts may have had specifically to do with my kid's age and what he was into/liked at the time.

is a horrible story.  I was really surprised when I was down there how many times workers at both the hotel and the parks warned me about certain places regarding the wildlife down there.  One time I was just leaning up against some bushes at TMK and somebody sweeping up told me to be careful of "critters."

It is easy to say this from the cheap seats, but my ass would have been wrestling that fucking gator to the death. Same damn thing for Harambe - would that fucker have killed me? Sure, but at least I wouldn't have to live the rest of my life feeling like I gave up my child to save my own ass.

Not to go all ITG, but when I never understand it when I hear / see a story about any situation where a child dies and a parent was there to prevent it or intervene in some way.  Oh, the alligator is strong and won't let go?  Well then I'll be riding on his back because there's no fucking way he's going anywhere with my son in his mouth.

When a house burns down and a parent survives but a kid doesn't I think to myself, wtf is wrong with that person?  Even if it means certain death you try to save the kids.

isn't Happy Gilmore Hatter.  It was a fricking Alligator.  Once that thing had a hold on that kid it was over.  Maybe the guy has two other kids, believe it or not, your other kids would probably also come into play at that exact moment.  Are you gonna pull out the big leg drop on it?  If the dad follows that thing anywhere it is two dead bodies instead of one.  You can blame the parents for letting the kid get into the water at all but I don't think you can blame the parents for not "beating" the Alligator.

True, I am not advocating that you put the gator in a head lock or pile drive it (nor unrealistic enough to think that I could), but I would hope that my paternal instincts would kick in enough to do whatever I could possibly do to get my kid out of that gators mouth (regardless of me or my child missing a limb).

I think I read that the parents of the kid that got taken by the gator did try to fight to get it to let go but were unsuccessful. As for the Gorillia, if you go down there the gorillia might be more likely to hurt the kid ( i'm not a gorilla expert and neither are most parents). There were trained professionals there to handle the situation and they did their job. Going down there would comprimise that. It's easy to blame the parents but the situations are more complex than just "they should have fought off the wild animal and saved their child"

As someone who has been to Disney many times, and has an annual pass, I feel obligated to comment. Disney World is my favorite place on earth, the story it tells is unparralled. I will admit I have never been to any of the other competing parks. Nothing against them but I don't have any interest. I have a second home in Orlando and 9/10 people down there tell me Disney is on another level that can never be matched. Some people do like Universal the best, but I never could as Disney is magical to me.

Also for whatever it is worth, I rank the parks (as they currently stand) 1. Hollywood (only getting better) 2. Epcot 3. Magic Kingdom 4. Animal Kingdom. Although I adore them all.

I coached high school basketball for a few years.  I raised funds every year by going around to local businesses asking for sponsorships.  There should be plenty of local companies willing to sponsor your team for $500 and in exchange you hang an ad banner in the gym for the season.
