Basketball Recruiting, New ESPNU 100

Submitted by GoWolverines16 on

I know football season is now in full swing but, ESPNU just recently came out with a new top 100 for basketball recruiting in 2011 and Michigan has two players in the top 100 tied with OSU and MSU for the most in the Big Ten.  These three schools are also the only Big Ten schools with top 100 commits.

Michigan

No. 52 Carlton Brundidge

No. 92 Trey Burke

Michigan State

No. 16 Branden Dawson

No. 96 Brandan Kearney

Ohio State

No. 39 LaQuinton Ross

No. 63 Shannon Scott

It is good to hear that our class is getting some recognition from the recruiting services. I am pretty sure both Burke and Brundridge are in the Rivals Top 150 as well. This looks good for the fans and more importantly future players looking at these rankings to figure out who they might be playing with.

Oh I'm aware of the longshot possibility for landing Amir, but he plays AAU ball with Brundidge and Pointer so I would not discount too much the influence they could have on him if they both were on board with Michigan. (And yes, I'm aware we don't have enough scholarships for all 3 but I think they would find a way to make it work if they could get all 3)

Still more evidence that Beilein's recruiting continues to steadily improve. I like the way things are shaping up for the 2011-12 season.

I guess this puts to rest the idea that Beilein can't recruit solid players. Whether that translates to wins is still up in the air, but if Amaker got 6 years (and with Brandon showing a similar reluctance to fire coaches quickly) I'd be shocked if Beilein doesn't get at least 5 to try and put something together.

Please please please please please let me see a "hello: Dominique Pointer" page on Mgoblog fairly soon. He would be a great addition to the team and provides much needed athleticism and length. Pointer, Burke, and Brundidge would be our best class since Sims, Petway and Harris.
