Maybe the worst result from Saturday:
alternate headline: man does job
Steve Lavin is the coach at St John's. I knew we were going to get slimed.
Has joined him in the Big Apple. That's a power tandem right there, with Keady being the legend and Lavin the protege/TV personality. I think it's good for NYC basketball (maybe big city college basketball in general, which used to dominate... i.e. Manhattan teams of the 40's and 50's). And on another note, I don't think there is a greasier combo than Keady-Lavin, the amount of gel used on each is epic.
Rivals is reporting that he has pushed his announcement back a week FWIW.
huge blow. someone send him a tape of manny on the cavs.
This sucks. Amir Williams, come on down! Oh, what? You don't actually want to go to Michigan?
RR ISNT HAPPIE SCREWING UP THE FOOTBALL PROGRAM NOW HES SCREWING UP THE BASEKTBALL. POINTER TOOK WON LOOK AT THE PUNT IN THE FIRST HALFD AND SAID IM GOING TO A SCHOOL THAT PLAYS REALL FOOTBALL AND HE SURE ENUF WENT THEIR. GO HOME RODRIQUEZ GO BLUE
WHY DID HE MAKE THE CLASSROOMS SO LARGE AT MICHIGAN!!!!!!!!!!!
HE KNOWS NUTHIN ABOUT TRADITION. THEIR ARE PLENTY OF WAYS TO BREAK A CAMELS BACK AND HE KNOWS PLENTY. THE ONLY TWO RS I WANT ON THE FIELD ARE THE ONES AFTER C-A. BRING BACK LLOYD. UNACEPTABLE. RON ENGLISH COULD DO BETTER
LET'S GET HIM OUT OF HERE BEFORE HE RUINS THE BIG CHILL ALSO.
HE'S GOING TO MAKE THEM PLAY OUTSIDE. NEVER WOULD HAVE HAPPENED WITH LLOYD CARR.
Hey Geaux_Blue, nobody in this thread approached the tone of your supposedly hilarious, sarcastic comments. You're being way more annoying than funny, and you're not making your point well.
i was trying to add levity. all of us fail at some point. this is truly a significant loss on the bball program that appears to not be blamable on anyone - who could blame the kid for going to the top 5 recruiting class in the country? other than cleveland fans i mean.
His comments were hilarious. Stop being such a whiner.
If you or the other two or three habitual anti-GB posters have anything personal against GB, you may want to take it offlist. If you don't, things will probably continue to escalate, which will result in them getting ugly. And, even if there are ten of you, I doubt that you will be able to effect any change here, except maybe to get yourself booted.
Here's hoping that everyone sees mgoblog as being bigger than personal emnities.
I have absolutely nothing personal against GB, have never commented about anything GB has said before, and in no way should be perceived as a "habitual anti-GB poster."
I completely understand the point GB is trying to make about hysterical reactionary fans, but I simply didn't think this thread - and especially where GB started the comments - was the appropriate place for the point being made.
The original post came off as an attack on a poster who was simply expressing disappointment, and I didn't think that was warranted or necessary.
This is why Michigan offered Stauskas in hope of him jumping into committing to Michigan and he didn't. It seems like Michigan is looking to upgrade athleticism and depth on the wing.
Amir Williams is still a long shot and all indications are that he'll go out of state.
Dom, I know this may sound crazy, but sometimes your parents are actually right. I'm just saying this to help you out. But I know that sometimes we have to make our own mistakes. I wish you luck...
still has the hot wife. Smart. He will win games there but what comes first, a Final Four or probation?
I was not expecting a basketball-related dong punch today. Damn.
After reading Sam Webb's article, I thought that this looked great for us. Given that he has a skill set that would have been huge for what we're trying to do, this isn't a pretty significant loss.
If you base your hopes, by what Sam Webb writes/says, you are going to be a wee bit mislead. Sam is going to report information with a huge M bias, my man has to make a living you know.
Amir Williams? I don't think he is coming to AA.
Belien has built a nice base for the future, in his last couple recruiting classes. Coach B just needs to nab that one star recruit to get this program over the top, and who knows, maybe that player is already on campus.

1. If Belein signs a one star recruit, all michigan basketball message boards will spontaneously combust.
2. There are probably 7 one star recruits hooping at the CCRB right now (maybe 8 if Gavin Groninger came back for homecoming)
3. I'm being totally sarcastic. I know what you meant.
I'm punctionality challenged, period. End of story.
This last weekend we saw that Rodriguez's offense can work against a good defense (yay). That's hope for me. With basketball...I never thought I would be nostalgic for Tommy Amaker. If UM can beat Bowling Green, Grand Valley State, Oakland and Harvard this year I will be very very surprised. Brandon needs to find a coach who can put big ten caliber athletes in those uniforms and fast.
I agree that we need to get rid of Beilein because he hasn't done anything of note...wait you mean he got us to the tourney for the first time in a decade? And that he has consistently improved our recruiting until now we are a fringe top 25 recruiting level team? All with the crappiest arena in the conference and having no practice facility? Honestly the strange dichotomy of supporting RR(which I do 100% btw) and hating on JB confuses the hell out of me.
Just a quick question....whats the appeal of going to St. Johns if your a big time recruit?
1) Gigantic media market.
2) Good conference.
3) A program that has some history and tradition. From wiki:
St. John's Red Storm men's basketball has the 7th-most NCAA tournament appearances (27), two Wooden National Player of the Year Award Winners, 11 consensus All-Americans, 6 members of the College Basketball Hall of Fame, and has sent 59 players to the NBA.
Why would a recruit care about the size of the media market? It's not like he can sign any endorsement deals.
Don't like to see themselves on tv, and hyped by ESPN, and getting headlines...?
Quick question . . . what's the appeal of going to Michigan if you're a big time recruit? Poor recent history, no practice facility, not even Midnight Madness to celebrate the team.
Should be interseting for for college BB in NY/NJ this year. First time in a while. St. John's and Rutgers are both putting together excellent classes that should make them relevant for a couple years. Seton Hall isn't pulling in a great class but will have a good veteran team for this year only that should conted for a spot in the dance. Then it's back to "eh" for them next year.
