Basketball Open Thread: NW at Michigan

Submitted by michfan4borw on

(EDIT update: UM 66 NW 64 final; OT) Michigan looks to continue its success defending home court.  A win tonight would move Michigan into a tie with Illinois for second place in the conference.  Of course no game is guaranteed for the favored team (e.g. OSU losing again last night).  Game starts at 630 EST.  Current standings:

TEAM CONF OVERALL
Michigan State 4-0 15-2
Illinois 4-1 15-3
Indiana 3-1 15-1
Michigan 3-1 13-3
Purdue 3-1 13-4
Ohio State 3-2 15-3
Iowa 2-3 10-8
Northwestern 1-2 11-4
Wisconsin 1-3 12-5
Penn State 1-3 9-8
Minnesota 0-4 12-5
Nebraska 0-4 8-7

about Hardaway, he's only a sophomore, and he did score 19 points with 9 rebounds and was 5-9 from 3 pt range.....He'll get better and learn more how to avoid taking bad shots and commiting bad fouls as his time with Beilein grows....

Would have been easy to let that one go, and chalk it up to a bad shooting night.  Team played D, got a ton of O-glass, and maximized their FT opportunities.  Those are the kinds of games that get you over that 21-22 win hump and on to 24-25.  Lots of mistakes to work out on the practice court, and I doubt anyone will get overconfident from this win, but its in the books.

Despite a pretty bad shooting day overall, the defense kept the team close and they were able to pull it out in the end.  Definitely not a pretty victory, but one that you'll take in this conference.  MSU in a couple weeks scares me, though, if this team continues to struggle to score for long periods of time.

*PHEW!* /bigsighofrelief

I'll take the win, but damn, WTF?  Home against NW and needing OT and missed FTs after a stupid foul???  Was THs there?  Because I'd be perfectly OK with him smacking THj upside the head for that.

Did the guys already forget Cazzie telling them to get a streak going?  They better come out with more fire @ Iowa.

But a win nonetheless. No way can they go into Iowa and lose after the beating they just got from Sparty. No way they would ever hear the end of it. Stay focused boys. Can't look ahead to next tuesday!

Man, the official clock operator either needs to lay off the booze, or set the damn alarm. Holy hell that guy's got some terrible reaction tome with starting and stopping the clock.
