Basketball game tomorrow

Submitted by James Burrill Angell on

Anyone know if the basketball game against Purdue tomorrow will be on (a) T.V. or (b) Live stream anywhere. It's a 2pm game so those of us working this week need to find somewhere online to watch. Should make for a fun afternoon at work tomorrow.

Unfortunately, games being broadcast on the BTN are not available for streaming (at least in the U.S. and Canada) at bigtennetwork.com--even for a fee.

This is from the bigtennetwork.com's FAQ page:

Q: Why doesn't the Big Ten Network stream its televised games?

A: Contractual agreements between the Big Ten Network and its cable and satellite affiliates prevent the domestic (U.S., Canada and the Caribbean Islands) streaming of any events at the same time they are airing live the Big Ten Network. Users outside of the U.S., Canada and the Caribbean may watch Big Ten Network televised football and men's basketball games online at www.BigTenTicket.com.

a pretty strange time to have the game at. This game is huge, if the team wants to make a serious run at the tourney. Still think we are too young to make the tourney, but you never know. They are definatly playing the kind of defense this year that you need to win some games in the Big Ten.

Despite the odd start time (which Michigan apparently requested in case the football team was selected to play in the Insight Bowl), there aren't many tickets left, so there should be a good crowd.

It seems that only single tickets remain for the game. If anyone needs any tickets, the "twitter" promotion still seems to work--just go to the promotions page and enter "twitter" and you should be able to buy single tickets for $8.

...that we've played during this Christmas-New Years week during the day.  In 2008, it was Wisky @ home and last year we played @ Indiana.  Considering we're 0-2 in those games, I'm not thrilled about the time.  But yay for something to watch while working.

The difference, though, between the last two years and this year is that the previous games were on Dec. 31--a holiday. An early game on Dec. 31 is not unusual at all. A 2:00 game on Tuesday, Dec. 28, is a different animal.

Out of curiosity, I checked the ESPN scoreboard for tomorrow. Out of the 43 NCAA D-1 games scheduled for tomorrow, every game is a night game except for two--the Purdue-Michigan game and a 4:00 game where NC State is hosting Alabama A&M.

When I saw the 2:00 time on 12/28  with students out of town and locals on vacation I had a vision that the game would be attended primarily by NOBODY...Thank goodness this is not the case.

It shows what a good start, new faces and good marketing can do.  Now lets hope for another quality performance by the team.

GO BLUE!

I'm guessing the Smotrycz will have a big game.  Purdue doesn't have much size outside of Johnson.  ES could be a tough guy to cover.
