Basketball game 2 recap

2 bigs:
Doesn't work on offense. Might work on defense against bigger teams (anyone watching MSU play, please comment). Still, Morgan played the 4 on offense and didn't know where to go -- he got stuck in the paint, along with Horford. MM could plausibly fix the problems of having a big 4 on offense, but he missed the perimeter guarding session for bigs due to his injury. (Haven't found the quote, TBH. Nevertheless, its true. [check umhoops stuff])

jumping off two feet:
Walton does it. So does Irvin.
They are freshmen.
They will get better.  (This is not football).

defensive rotation:
Actually better than I expected. Granted, I thought we'd look like last year; last year we had 6 freshmen in the rotation (Beilfeldt included). We'll be pretty good on defense.

On-ball-D:
Great! Walton and LeVert are great on ball defenders. Obviously, comp caveats apply. Still, those guys pressed bad teams when the opposing player had the ball -- and well beyond the 3-pt line. I can't stress this enough: when you are good, you press, it doesn't matter what the coaches say, if you know you can kick a kids butt you'll force him to make mistakes. Now, that doesn't mean we should expect a press-D. Rather, it means that our defenders are good enough to BELIEVE that they can press the opponents they've faced (comp-caveats: GO).

Rotation:
it will only include 9 or less people. Donnal would have played the last few minutes if the coaches thought they would NOT red-shirt him. He'll redshirt.

since Morgan really doesn't have a nba future, would it be bad idea considering the new trend in the nfl after the season he thought about being a tight end? What u guys think? I think he runs the court well. I'm not sure how fast he is but he seems to have decent coordination and okay hands.

Isn't he a RS senior? you can only play within 5 years with a scholarship, if you played 4 in one sport you have 1 left  in another sport if I'm not mistaken, he would have no eligibility left as he's been 5 years with the BB team.

I don't understand why the OP and Ace talked about the two post lineup. It is already dead without McGary. They didn't use it for a single minute Friday and I can't remember more than a token appearance tonight. His injury, assuming he returns healthy soon, may have been a blessing in disguise since it revealed that having Walton, Levert, Stauskas, and GR3 on the floor together is our best lineup.

Morgan played really good two years ago, he was averaging around 10 points a game if I remember right. He has regressed, is it possibly an attitude problem with him?

LeVert is going places, looks like he could have an NBA future with his frame.

Morgan had great chemistry with Darius Morris, particularly in the pick and roll.  For whatever reason, he just didn't click with Trey Burke (and don't blame it on Trey's passing ability: dude set assist records).  If he isn't rolling to the hoop within one step of a dunk, he's extremely limited offensively.

his value is likely lessened a bit given the new charging rules, but i give that guy tons of credit for making himself a solid contributor on a final 4 team.  kudos to him from helping the team go from mediocrity to prominence.  he held his own against guys like sullinger and that shouldn't go unnoticed. it didn't with me.

Sunday will be a test. Big games coming in December too with Az and Duke. Can't wait until Mitch gets back and we can see our team as a whole. Go Blue!

This is slightly OT but has been driving me crazy for months.  There is this one song that is played at Crisler that I like but have no idea what it is.  It is purely a beat, last season they would play it when introducing the starting lineup.  This year I have heard a few bits and pieces of it, but since it has no lyrics I have had trouble finding it.  Does anyone know the song I am referring to?

We will be a very complete team once McGary comes back. All 5 starters can play both sides of the floor, and I'm really liking our depth (Irvin, Horford, Morgan, and Spike). We will more than compete in the B1G this year. This is gonna be a fun team to watch.
