Basketball and Football Mount Rushmore

Submitted by sportsfreak0819 on

WIth recent talk of LeBron James' NBA Mount Rushmore it got me to thinking about Michigan sports--more specifically basketball and football.

Who would be on your Mount Rushmore for basketball and football?

Here are mine:

Football:

Desmond Howard

Charles Woodson

Tom Harmon

Anthony Carter

Basketball

Cazzie Russell

Trey Burke

Glen Rice

Chris Webber

Who do you put for both?

i love hunwick but if i were to give a list i don't think i can actually include him...first thoughts would be

Marty Turco

Brendan Morrison

Kevin Porter

Gordon "Red" Berenson

but as a young guy who has only seen the nhl careers of turco and morrison id have to leave them off my personal list. out of the players i was able to watch (i tried to keep it to players who stayed through SR year) at yost it would look like this

Kevin Porter

Shawn Hunwick

Carl Hagelin

T.J. Hensick

I agree with your choices. It would be nice to get a linemen up there but which of your 4 could you drop? Some might argue against Webber. Maybe Rudy T instead?

... no way.  Don't hate him, but the face you would immortalize in stone?  Come on.

Football:

Woodson

Howard

Harmon

Brady.

Basketball:

Rice

Russell

Burke

And McGary with a goofy smile on his face.   That would be funny.

I realize Brady has been one of the best in the  in the NFL, but a lot of people wanted Henson to play over him while he was here and nobody really knew who he was until he had to replace Bledsoe. For a Michigan football mount rushmore it has to be guys that became legends HERE. Replace Brady with Braylon or Brian Griese.

Amongst my crowd, we hated the whole Henson side show, we wanted and loved Brady and knew he would do whatever it took to win. We knew he had "it". And when he got drafted, we knew he would make it and laughed at how he got drafted so low. Okay, no one of us predicted his NFL career, but we all knew he would make it farther in the NFL than Henson. We loved him. And I don't think there are too many of us students at the time who thought differently....

I love me some JB, but he hasn't done enough yet to warrant being included in that crowd. Plenty of coaches at Michigan who have accomplished more. Urbancheck, Hutchins.....

Of John still has time to build his resume and get himself a place at the table. Please, coach, earn yourself a place at that table....

I'm a fan of the Fab Five (don't want to get into that argument here though), but I have a hard time putting Webber on the mountain.  If anyone from the unit, it has to be Rose or Howard because of the circumstances.  I might just go with Rudy T instead.  Maybe Gary Grant.

If you are talking about an actual, physical Mount Rushmore of Michigan football then you would have to have Denard Robinson. Could you imagine that smile blazing from a mountain? It would be glorious.
