Baseball Wins 4th In A Row

Submitted by Sac Fly on

Weekday action at Wilpon. The Wolverines finished a 6 game homestand by beating Central Michigan 5-3 to conclude a 5-1 stretch.

At the plate, Travis Maezes walked three times and singled in two runs. Drew Lugbauer went 3-4 and knocked in one. Cronenworth knocked in the other.

Michigan's 5th run came on a double steal. Benedetti took 2nd, Bivens stole home.

Starting pitching was excellent. Jayce Vancena started and went 3 innings, no hits no runs. Jaskie followed with 2 2/3, two hits and no runs. The Chips came back with a late rally before Benedetti and Pall closed the door.

The Wolverines improve to 16-12. They head to Bloomington next to face Indiana.

Bakich was a great hire. Young guy who can bring us to the levels of Indiana with a lengthy tenure here. I just hope the administration remains committed to his success. A fanbase like ours could really get behind a top 25 baseball team if we can actually acquire the talent to get close to that. The weakness of the big ten is quite frustrating, however in college baseball a great coach can go a long ways.

I posted this in the last baseball thread, but was a little late and didn't get a response...

Is Jackson Lamb done playing both ways? More specifically, is he just a bullpen guy? I thought he had a decent freshman year with the bat...nothing spectacular, but showed promise. Now it seems as though he's only being used as a relief pitcher. Explanations?

Yes, Lamb is strictly a pitcher now. That's where his future is, potentially, in the pros, so it makes sense for him to concentrate on that. Plus, he had his fastball up to 93mph in the runup to the season, with the expectation that it would go up a few more mph in warmer weather. Bakich has said that Lamb could eventually be a starting pitcher at Michigan.

Unfortunately, Lamb hurt his arm during the Kansas series and hasn't pitched since. I haven't heard anything on his possible return.

Injuries have really hampered the team this season. It was good to see Travis Maezes return to the lineup in yesterday's game. Evan Hill, who tore an ACL in the fall, is expected back in the next couple of weeks. It would certainly help to get him back in the starting rotation (assuming he can return to his previous form).
