Baseball: Pitching Coach Keller Released
Via Aaron Fitt (Baseball America)'s Twitter feed:
Stunner: Michigan pitching coach Bob Keller just called me & said, "I've been released from Michigan baseball." He'll land new job quickly.
Pretty shocking given all the talent he has produced the last few years. No idea what this might mean for any current players. I know Ballantine came to Michigan to come under the same pitching instruction that similarly built Chris Fetter was built up in.
At the same time, the regression of the bullpen over the course of the last two seasons has been somewhat suspect. I'll bring more details in as I get them.
Keller had been an assistant at Michigan since 2005. MGoBlue Bio.
Do you think they already have someone lined up to take his spot? Or a very likely replacement?
I have no idea. I just found out about this. I'm sure Maloney probably has a few names in mind.
It wouldn't seem like results warrant it, perhaps some 'discussions in earnest' about things to improve, but.....release?
Coach Keller is an old family friend and all of us are very devastated by this loss. The decision seemed to come out of nowhere for him and hopefully he will be able to recover and find a new job as soon as possible. RIP.
are you writing as if he died?
