Baseball closes regular season with 4-0 shutout upset of #22 Kansas
How about that for going into the postseason?!
Evan Hill pitched a gem. Michigan could've swept this series if it not had been for a 9th inning disaster yesterday.
Michigan finishes the regular season at 28-27-1. They are the 5 seed in the B1G Tournament at TD Ameritrade in Omaha.
They open against 4 Minnesota on Wednesday night at 10pm.
Our pitching has been stellar this season. Improve our batting and we'll find ourselves in the same position as Nebraska and Indiana.
Evan Hill pitched a gem.
This makes it sounds like Hill pitched a complete game. He actually pitched the last 3.1 innings to pick up the save—the first save of his Michigan career in his first relief effort.
Hill probably would have gotten the start and been limited to a short outing like Szkutnik was yesterday, but it was Senior Day, so Bakich turned to Logan McAnallen, Ben Ballantine, and Alex Lakatos—all seniors—and they held Kansas scoreless for the first 5.2 innings. Ballantine was credited with the win.
Cole Martin, another senior, knocked in two runs in the third with a single. And Michigan's fifth senior, Brett Winger, got his first hit of the season in the 7th after seeing little playing time this year. So kudos to all the seniors!
Nice. Brett was in my Spanish 231 class sophomore year. Was a good guy so I'm glad to see him get in there and get a hit.
Congrats team! Good luck in the tournament!
I might go to the game on Wednesday, wonder how cheap I can get tickets for.
