Heard they were tearing it down to put in a mascot training and jersey design facility that also serves exclusively Domino's pizza and curly fries while blaring rawk music.  The facility will have speakers mounted on the outside to make the music louder, and should be large enough to engulf the band practice facilities, so no more band.

Also, it will be filled with rich people.

When they decided to nuke the Frieze building and let all of the most useless departments on campus scurry out like rats.  I haven't heard where Cuneiform Studies ended up.

Sucks for anyone who has a lot of memories there. I wonder what the Oldest Resident Hall is though? I mean this had been around since the 60's, I doubt there's anything older than that

Does this mean Baits 2 gets promoted to Baits 1? Or do they just become Baits? Or Baits 2 could change its name to something more accurate such as "Dumpsville" or "The Dorm of the Lottery Losers"

"Baits 1" was an endowed residence hall, intended solely for NFL-prototype wide recievers of over 6'1" in height.

If they try to give the name "Baits 1" to Baits 2, you could have the situation in which walk-on defensive backs could then be living in "Baits 1."

About time.

Take it from someone who worked in Residential Housing last year - that place is literally held together by duct tape, boiler room included.  Its almost sickening how much money Residential Housing put into North Quad furniature (thousand dollar chairs anyone?) while neglecting basic repairs for other dorms.

The University is making its update rounds and closing each and every dorm for a year to bring it up to par, you know. Couzens and Stockwell are fantastic, just as nice as North Quad... And Alice Lloyd is happening right now. East Quad next year.

I had a roommate who decided to transfer to Penn State after first semester (in-state tuition) so I got to use his bed as a permanent beer pong table.

So yeah, I have good memories in Baits I.

My sole memory of Baits during undergrad was having to trek up to North Campus for something my sophomore year, getting lost, and finding myself amongst the Baits buildings suddenly surrounded by deer.  At which point a bunch of dazed-looking students began to slowly stream out of their buildings into the grass to stare at the deer.  I felt like I was in some kind of Soviet zombie film.

I knew of someone who lived on the ground floor of Baits 1 my freshman year who found a dead deer in thier room upon move in day.  Apparently the deer had crashed through the window over the summer and in panic/injured mode coudn't figure out how to get back out through the window and died.  On the plus side they got to live in the new MoJo for a month, but then got moved back into that room after housing had "cleaned" it.

My buddy and I got put into Bursley my freshman year.  Both of us were pretty bummed, we wanted to be on Central. Fast forward a month into school and my roomate and I go out to enjoy the nightlife.  I, apparently, enjoyed it a little too much.  My roomate put me to bed at 3:00am.  At 7:00am I woke up with a citation on my chest that informed me that I had peed, not only in the hallway, but on my RA's door.  Worse yet, my RA opened the door and I apparently peed all over his legs.

I felt terrible.  My parents felt worse.  My RA felt worsest.  In my disciplinary meeting, I was told I had "irrevocably damaged the fabric of my community" and would be moved to Central campus.  Being an 18 year old jerk, I said "good, that's where I wanted to be anyway".  Idiot.  She smiled and informed me that I would be moved to Baits instead.  Further North and no cafeteria.  Parents were none too happy.  On the bright side, my new roomate in Baits is still a close friend of mine.

I no longer pee on people.

Lived in Baits II for four years (Max Kade German Residence).  Lot of great times up there, I really enjoyed it.  I had a lot of friends over in Baits I as well.  Honestly never really understood all the complaints, but then, getting smashed at frat parties never had much appeal to me either.

I lived in Baits I, and I would have preferred to live in Baits II by a significant margin for the simple fact of Baits II's proximity to the dining hall at Bursley. I liked my room in Baits I, but little else.

Side note: I spent a lot of time in the Kade Haus though I wasn't part of it. It seemed like a fun place to be if you were studying German language, history, or culture as your major.

The Kade Haus was certainly a good experience.  It provided a good network of people with some common ground to get you started off right in terms of meeting new people, making friends, etc.  Also definitely provided some good oppurtunities for boosting one's German knowledge.  The best part was probably the (heavily-subsidized) spring break trips.  Each year we went to either Germany or Austria for a week, largely on the dime of some donor or foundation.  Some truly legendary stories came out of those trips!

When did you live there?

For me there were about 6 or so girls in the entire Baits II Conger House building that were "normal-ish," and that's probably an overstatement if anything. I was in the basement, and my 8 person hallway was pretty cool, but it seemed like pretty much no one else in that building was willing to be social.

EDIT: that said, I made a few good friends in Baits, but based on my experiences visiting friends in other buildings, it just wasn't nearly as social/as fun of a place to live. The buildings also smelt like my grandmother's apartment.

I graduated in December, so I scored a last-minute Baits I room to hold me over my last semester.  As an engineering undergrad, it was convenient.   As a social person, it was miserable.   I went the entire semester without ever interacting with the person living next to me.

I lived in the Burlodge for three years (ended up making my way to the hill (MoJo) for my senior year). I actually really liked Bursley. It was a lot different than Baits though. I mean, Baits was essentially grad student apartment housing. It lacked any sense of a community that your traditional dorm has. The bus was sort of a pain during the frigid Ann Arbor winters though.

Man, you graduate 9 years ago and the whole place just goes to hell...

Sorry to see Bates go, but it may be for the best - my Dad was one of the first residents in Bates years ago, so it definitely was on the older end of the spectrum.

I bet at least some of the buildings get converted into practice rooms or offices.  As it stands today the SOM building is perpetually short of practice and rehearsal space.  Building the Arthur Miller Theatre (the green cube) took the musical theatre kids out of the equation, but the building is still short of space.  Baits I would be the chillest practice building ever.  I made reeds in one of the common rooms.  I got drunk in there freshman year (and had adventures in Bursley, Baits II, and Northwood).

Otherwise, would it be too much to ask the U to resurface the %$(^-ing tennis courts!?  Seriously, the cracks are at least 2 inches wide on the court surface and have been since at least 2006.

Yeah, Baits 1 sucked, but I would be EXTRA pissed if I had to live in Northwood as a freshman! This year they had to put a lot of freshman up there, and next year its going to be even more. Talk about awful..
