Bad Calls of the Weekend Open Thread

I thought an open thread to discuss bad calls might be a good idea. I thought the M game was pretty well officiated, but when I saw this, I couldn't let it go.

How the heck does that stand?

After studying the videos of the Syracuse extra point attempt at 2:07 of the fourth quarter, we have concluded that the ruling on the field that the kick passed between the uprights was incorrect, and that the replay official made an error in failing to reverse that ruling. In reviewing the video, we have determined that the angle from behind the kicking team shows conclusively that the ball passes outside the right upright.

"Our review of the process determined that the replay official mistakenly focused his attention on the sideline angle, which proved to be distorted. We are confident that our officiating staff will learn from this situation in order to prevent a reoccurrence."

(from http://espn.go.com/blog/bigeast)

It's not even particularly conciliatory.  Basically, "Yah we screwed up, whatever"  If Toledo was Michigan (or really any nationally-followed school with a large contingent of fans) there would be MASSIVE outrage over this and then some.  I can't even imagine (and don't really want to) the meltdown on this board (or any Michigan board) if  Michigan lost after something like that.

Back when Drew Brees was playing for Purdue, I remember they were playing Georgia in a bowl game.  Purdue kicked a field goal that was good but both refs ruled it wide right because they were blinded by the sunlight.  The commentators and everyone else in the stadium knew it was actually good.  That ended up being the difference in a 3 point Georgia win.  The Boilers got majorily screwed in that game but I don't remember much of an uproar.

Quite different from today, however.  There was no review back then and refs don't have to worry about sunlight in the Carrier Dome.
