Bacon: Harbaugh getting $5 mil per year, same as SF deal

Submitted by umfan83 on

BREAKING NEWS: Straight from UM AD Jim Hackett. Harbaugh's salary will be roughly $5M a year, plus incentives, same basic contract as 49ers.

So much for "Harbaugh is only leaving the NFL because UM overpaid him"

This is great news and debunks the "he came for the money" theory.

I would love it if Harbaugh chained himself to the podium during the press conference to prove that he isn't leaving anytime soon. NFLers in their infinite wisdom are already proclaiming that he won't stay long.

Does this mean Grantland has to rewrite that article about Harbaugh and the money?!

But it was soooo long. That's like back in the day when you wrote a paper on the computer and the lights went out.

Fuck yes. LMAO.

Not only do we get to enjoy all the NFL writers back tracking from being way off the whole process, but all their excuses for being wrong are now totally fucking invalid.

Jim Harbaugh just wanted to be at Michigan. End of story.

Mike Garofolo puffing his chest out on Twitter saying see I told you OAK offer was more. I reply that's easy to say without reporting what OAk actually offered and not knowing exactly what UM's offer was since it was reportedly for 6yr/48 mil. To that I got no response

You don't just walk into the prized NFL and walk out with one of their best coaches while paying them basically what they were already making. All while he would surely receive better deals (money wise) if he stayed in the league. Well I guess you do if you're Jim the triple OG Hackett!!!

Interim AD turned Permanent Director of Everything - Jim Hackett!

Build a statue for this guy.

I was almost throwing up happy when he decided to come...but this makes me even more happy and now I know I will throw up.  He wants to be here, he wants a good staff with him who is paid well, and he wants to win.  I feel he has been waiting for this for a long time...the time was right and he is home.

Let us all raise our glasses and cheers to JH

But, Mark Davis offered more money!?!  Why wouldn't he take MOAR MONEY! The Bears could afford $5 mil!  The Falcons and Jets think that's ridiculous too!  NFLLLLLLLLLLLLL!

Maybe it's already been posted (honestly, I can't keep up with the pace of the board), but when is the next team meeting? I know it was talked about last week, but I can't find the date. Just curious when Jim gets to meet and address the team.

Wow, I have say that I'm shocked. This tells me two things:

1) Hackett is a boss, and the man can sure sell what he needs to sell. To walk into a successful NFL coach's office and convince him to come back to college, all the while receiving essentially the same compensation he got at SF, that's pretty great salesmanship.
2) While not surprising, this was never about money for Harbaugh. But he could've taken, and likely gotten that $8 million/year if he really wanted. He doesn't want to make this about him. He wants to get the best damn assistants that are available and build the best damn team he can.

I don't want to get ahead of myself. It still wouldn't surprise me if he went back to the NFL one day, but he's giving indications that he may want to make this his final stop. And I, for one, would be extremely grateful for that.

Maybe 6 years 48 (49) million $ is just a smoke screen to deter other NFL teams from pursuing him? Even a higher bidder (Raiders) could not change his mind.
