B2 Stealth Bomber Flyover Video
Was he carrying a stuffed beaver?
I was sitting in my kitchen on Saturday talking on the phone with my sister when I heard a very strange sounding plane. I am in the flight path of DTW and see/hear planes all the time and this one was not familiar. I looked out to see the Stealth b2 flying amazingly low right over the left side of my backyard. It banked and and turned and I had a perfect view of the whole plane. It was incredible. It was something to remember. I was thrilled to see this video of it and hear the response of the crowd as it went over.
By the way, that was great footage. It was awe inspiring to hear the national anthem being sung with the flags waving, hear the distinct sound of the bomber and then hear the crowd viturally drown out the national anthem with cheers for the amazing site of the stealth. Anyone who thinks this country is not all-American patriotic needs to think again. Thanks for sharing your footage with us.
Hard to believe it can fly, but it looks so damn cool!
Great video, thanks.
The B2 flyover was worth it by itself. Throw in a 5-0 beat down of MSU, a crowd of 113,411, and a game under the lights at the big house? The most fun I've had during my time here.
As awesome and amazing as that is, I believe the flying restrictions are only 1500 feet from the ground. So Air Force, I know this is a $2billion dollar plane and all but, you can fly lower plz. K? :)
But as a guy who goes to about 5 air shows a year, seeing a B-2 fly is a rare treat, so this was really awesome to get as a fly-over.
1000' AGL........(much lower (and faster) if it's not a high-vis flyby and you're not worried about getting in trouble.....) ;)
Sign you're at a very special event: Stealth bomber does a fly-by. Must have been incredible to see.
Went to a Rose Bowl to see Michigan play many years ago (Bo's last game...sigh) and fighter jets flew over before the game. We had no idea they were coming (from behind our vantage point) and the noise and vibration scared the hell out of me and most people in the nearby vicinity. Some people literally thought a bomb had gone off. Guess that's not a problem with a stealth plane.
I was at that game. I have the exact same memory. We must have been sitting right next to each other.
Having experienced numerous flyovers in my years of attending Michigan games, this was one of the coolest.
I know it was up in the air a bit, but it was amazing to me how quiet it was. [I know... STEALTH duh...] It was just this gigantic wing that swooshed across the Stadium.
Very, VERY cool.
At one of our last couple of Rose Bowls?
I was in the MMB at the time of the last Rose Bowl, and IIRC, there was a stealth bomber that flew over the Tournament of Roses Parade, but for the actual game they had four F-16s fly over while we played the national anthem. Those are some of the Michigan memories I cherish the most, and are the reason why I look back at my college days with nostalgia.
There WAS one, but it was at the 2004 Rose Bowl. I checked my photos, and I did have a sweet one of a B-2 with a stealth fighter on either wing.
is how quiet the plane is.Just amazing technology. Good ole military industrial
Some questions for the masses. How do we actually schedule a flyover? Obviously only the "big" games seem to get them, but is there like a sign-up sheet or something with the air force? Do they do it for free? Or does a school have to pay for the flyover? And finally, where are they coming from? Willow run doesn't seem secure enough, does the B2 fly from Selfridge Air Force base up near Utica?
You can request flyovers through the Air Force for events. It usually helps if you have someone with connections especially with the school such as ROTC/etc to coordinate. It also helps to generate positive press and public relations and is a recruitment tool for the Air Force as well.
The B2s are based at Whiteman AFB in Missouri, I was told a couple weeks ago by a big M fan there that this was in the works as a request during one of my visits to the installation. They are definitely impressive to watch.
and I think that is a GREAT IDEA!
Can you imagine the tOSU game?
Frank Beckmann: "Pryor takes the snap, he looks downfield,...SACKED AGAIN by the smart bomb!"
Jim Brandstatter: "The defense really BLEW UP that play!"
I had a great B2 flyover experience about 6 years ago... Playing golf with my Dad, Brother and Brother-in-law in Dublin, OH and the B2 flew directly overhead, turned around and flew back over again back toward the Dayton Air Show.
I can't imagine the reaction of the Taliban when they first saw something like that...
That's the point... the terrorists don't see it coming. IIRC, when we started the "Shock and Awe" campaign with the initial strikes on Baghdad, the stealth bombers took off from Missouri, completed their objectives, then turned around. By the time the anti-aircraft fire started, Saddam's forces were firing blindly in futility because our aircraft were long gone.
the year we lost to USC. 9am, walking out of our hotel (which was less than 1 mile away from the RB) on our way to pick up some cases when all of a sudden I hear what sounds like a low whistle blowing....lookup and see that monster flying directly overhead and low enough that I swear I could have hit it with a cold PBR.
Was one of the scariest things I've ever witnessed up close.
...what I want to know it what was up with that blue and silver helicopter that was flying over the crowd in the hour before the game. It hovered over State and Packard for awhile and then circled the crowd as it approached the Big House.
No, it wasn't black, but it was not a typical civilian helicopter.
Did anyone else see it?
Also did anyone see the UMPS cops in full SWAT gear walking around the outer concourse? Submachine guns and the whole nine yards.
I had two just beers. Honest.
Maybe they were checking for underage drinking?
The silver helo was Michigan State Police.
was Fox Sports Net.
Nice - great clip. Sounds like it got some juices flowing
Whenever I see a stealth bomber, I think of Batman.
I had a great view of the B-2 heading north after its pass over the stadium. Gave me goosebumps anyhow.
It's crazy how flat they look too, it doesn't even look like you could fit a person in there.
The Stealth bomber is awesome, and a sight to see. Saw it fly over the first USC Rose Bowl, and its amazing how quiet it flies compaired to the fighter planes. I personally get more pumped up by the fighter planes, because they're louder. Either way, great stuff. Don't get many flyovers for hockey games!
I guess that's one of the cool things for me about living next to a huge USAF base is that I get to see all the cool planes whenever they're out flying around. The B2 was out a few times this summer that I know of, that thing is awesome to see flying around.
