Even if there is a 10pm EWR-DEN flight, that still means overnighting in DEN before taking a morning DEN-SEA flight.

But to the earlier point, there is no such thing as an East-West transcon non-stop redeye flight b/c they don't want flights scheduled to arrive close to midnight or later.

Also, a "direct" flight is not necessarily the same thing as a "non-stop" flight. A direct flight can have a stopover, as long as the flight number does not change. However, this does not preclude an aircraft change.

They'll call a flight "direct" if it maintains the same flight number.

For instance, one time I flew from Cincinnati to Oklahoma City, connecting in Minneapolis.  The Cincinnati-MSP flight had the same number as the MSP-OKC flight.

Despite getting off the plane in MSP and such, Delta called that a "direct" flight.

What REALLY makes it a rip-off is that they calculate frequent flier miles based on excluding any stops.  If you look at a map, MSP isn't anywhere close to the direct path between Cincinnati and OKC.  However, the amount of frequent flier miles I received were based on the distance between Cincinnati and OKC.  Doing the math, I only received 756 miles vs. 1290 (596 + 694).

The NFL has at the most 16 games a week. They really don't need to play games on Thursday but the television companies wanted it so they got it. In contrast early in the non-conf. season there could be up to 70+ games on a given weekend so it makes sense to put some of those games on Friday for maximum exposure.

Fri., Oct. 13 Northwestern at Maryland
Fri., Oct. 27 Michigan State at Northwestern

These 2 could be interesting.

Obviouly, that depends on none of these teams deciding to become a dumpster fire next season (and on MSU deciding not to continue to fuel their current couch fire).

I would imagine more people would watch this game on a Friday than on a Saturday.  When you’re the only game on TV people will watch similar to MACtion.  I watch the Thursday night game every week not because I care about the teams or players, but because it is college football.

That being said, I have no idea how a Friday night game will be received when that night has traditionally been a high school football night and people tend to away from the TV in general.

Rutgers can get pounded on a Friday night when all the HS kids are busy playing their own games. No need to invite 200 players to see you get dismantled - they can watch the highlights on Sportscenter after their game. Good strategy for Rutgers and, therefore, the world.

I'm pretty sure I wouldn't watch any of these games on a Saturday. Maybe that's the strategy - to get people to watch some of these unwatchable games move them to a day when it's literally the only game on TV.

We all know we will watch those shitty September games next fall because those first few weeks we are football starved. It's like eating dead passengers when your plane crashes into the Andes. You do what you have to do to survive. The latter half of the slate is solid for weekday games. Your future August 2017 selves will agree.

The teams worth watching told the B1G to go fuck themselves - they arent playing on Friday's.

Which is what DAVE FUCKING BRANDON SHOULD'VE TOLD THE B1G WHEN THEY SAID YOU'RE GOING TO PLAY MSU BACK TO BACK YEARS ON THE ROAD.

You see it actually does work.  We now have proof.

Washington vs Rutgers? Utah State vs Wisconsin? And (uggh) Ohio vs Purdue? Who, outside of the fan bases for these schools will watch this, except in passing?

The regular season games are all middling, except for (maybe) MSU and Northwestern.

This type of crap seems like it degrades the B1G brand more than it benefits in the additional revenue that a couple hundred thousand people watching will bring in.

Michigan better stay far away from this junk.

I don't get the complaints. More exposure for smaller programs. More money for the conference.

Michigan doesn't have to play on Fridays and I'd rather watch Northwestern-MSU live on a Friday night instead of watching 10 minutes from between commercials during the Michigan game.

A lot of you are just complaining because you like complaining.

"Michigan doesn't have to play on Fridays"

- That doesn't mean they won't, eventually. We've seen UM do plenty of strange things schedule wise (e.g., the recent resumption of the ND series, to pick just one example)

I'd rather watch Northwestern-MSU live on a Friday night "

- I understand that. But if I am a fan of either of those teams, going to a game on Friday night sucks. If I'm the home team, it means leaving work earlier (not always possible) and if I'm the away team, it means the chance for a road trip is significantly reduced (e.g., I always love when UM plays at NU -- gives me an excuse for a Chicago road trip; I couldn't do that on a Friday).

Additionally, I tend do non-football things on Friday night. I'm not a college student, so if this works in your schedule, that's great. But there's only so much time I can block off for football. Having it be Friday night *and* Saturday day *and* Saturday night *and* Sunday (for NFL) is not possible. I'd much prefer going to a bar on Saturday and watching multiple games, at once.
