B1G to use shootouts & HUGE M non-conference slate for 2013-14, Sparks signs with ECHL team
Tonight was the final night of the Red Berenson Show over at The Arena Sports Bar.
Red said that Michigan will face the following teams in the non-conference (You can also check out @MattSlovin on twitter for confirmation)-
- A road series against New Hampshire
- A road series against Nebraska-Omaha
- A single home game with Boston University
- A single home game with Boston College
In addition, these games are already confirmed. Red also said that B1G Conference play won't begin until December.
- A home and road series with Minnesota
- A home and road series with Wisconsin
- A home and road series with Penn State
- Two home-road series with ohio (One taking place in a Friday-Monday format)
- A road-home, road-JLA series with FYS.
- A single road game at RIT on 10/12. It is their homecoming game and it will be played at the Blue Cross Arena in Rochester due to it being a large event every year.
- Home series against Tech on 11/1-11/2
- A series with Ferris State. Site is still TBA.
- GLI Semifinal vs Denver on 12/27 at Comerica Park
- GLI Game vs Tech or FYS on 12/28 at Comerica Park
- B1G Tournament on March 20-22 at the Xcel Energy Center in Saint Paul, MN
Like the CCHA, the B1G will also use shootouts should a game be tied after the overtime period. The point system for the conference standings is still TBA but I expect it to be close to what the CCHA was if not the same.

EDIT: Also per @umichhockey, Lindsay Sparks signs with the Fort Wayne Comets of the ECHL. Debuts wednesday night. The Komets are the secondary farm team of the Anaheim Ducks, whose farm team is the Norfolk Admirals of the AHL.
Love the schedule. Great. Only way it could be better is if they play @ RPI or Union.

I took that to mean 2 home-and-home series--play in Ann Arbor on Friday, Columbus on Saturday (or Friday-Monday, as OP mentioned one would be). With the schools so close, that makes sense.
This is per very high ups in the Hockey ADept and several ohio admins over on USCHO where I frequently post.
It really isn't going to be a B1G Conference. More like a BTN Hockey League. Conference game dates and times will be dictated by what times the BTN has open. Which means once it's basketball season, they probably will be pushing their BTNDN subscriptions to watch there.
And yes it's a Friday in Ann Arbor/cbus and Monday in Cbus/Ann Arbor.

I live in Saint Paul, so that is one of the biggest reasons that I was happy to hear about B10 hockey, namely that Michigan will be coming here more often. Is anyone planning on traveling for this game or anyone that lives in Minnesota that wants to attend? Would love to see it with fellow Wolverines, mostly so I am not the only one thrown out when the Gophers get a penalty.
Thanks for the info. Looks like a solid schedule, I'll think about buying season tickets or at least trying to get student tickets from people for some of those games.
I really hope we can continue some of the CCHA rivalries. FSU and UN-O are the only former CCHA teams we play next year. After everything settles, I would really like to see Miami, Notre Dame, and Western. They are all close enough we could do home-and-home series. Also, playing North Dakota again would be awesome.
As sad as the ending to this season was, seeing this schedule and getting ready to enter the B1GHC is getting me ready for next season already. Only 6 months away!
Is Detroit going to be in the rotation for the Big Ten Tournament?
Yes. It's been confirmed for 2015 and 2017.
The Blue Jackets are trying to work on an ATO for Kevin Lynch, he would be brought up to Springfield in the AHL.
There are not words available to describe how excited I am to watch Tech at yost.
By the way, I am a Tech alum, in case that wasn't clear.
First time since the 1980s when tech was briefly in the CCHA they come into Yost. Michigan will play them a return trip in 2014-15.
Thinking of Michigan playing Tech in Houghton again makes me giddier. They should move the game to Dee stadium where Tech use to play. That would be awesome.

it's been pretty weak the past few seasons so it's nice to see we're playing some big names and keeping some of the Michigan teams (Ferris, Tech) on the schedule too. I'm definitely going to the RIT and Penn State games at least

I hope U-M makes an effort to keep playing the non B1G Michigan teams. I seem to recall reading that NMU wanted to keep playing U-M, but only if Michigan was also willing to play in Marquette (ie. No payday games in Ann Arbor). I wonder if any of the other Michigan schools have taken that stance.

Steve Kampfer got mugged like right after he came back from a skull fracture by those two MSU goons and it looked like they reinjured him. The student section (appropriately, if I may add) chanted "F*CK YOU STATE". Hence FYS. I think YostBuilt officially coined it, that was the first place I saw it

Since teams are allowed 34 (non-exempt) games, and the schedule posted here only lists 33 games, we will have one more non-conference game on the schedule. I am assuming that it will be at home.

Anyone going to the RIT game is welcome to come track me down! It's always a big event-Blue Cross Arena holds over 10,000 and it's been sold out the past two years. I'll be cheering for the Tigers though

Would like to play all the Michigan teams every year, but I get that is probably too much to ask for.
No big complaints about it. But I hate shootouts!!!!!
