I'm bored and I know that there are 3 games left and a lot of shit can change, but hey.

14 Rutgers vs 11 Illinois 7pm/BTN
Second Round -- Thursday, March 9

Current standings as of right now-

Place Team Rec. Games Left
1. Purdue 12-3 at U-M, vs IU, at NU
2. Wisconsin 11-3 at OSU, at MSU, vs Iowa, vs MIN
3. Maryland 10-5 vs Iowa, at RU, vs MSU
4. Minnesota 9-6 vs PSU, vs NEB, at UW
Northwestern 9-6 at IU, vs U-M, vs PU
6. Michigan State 8-6 vs NEB, vs UW, at ILL, at MD
7. Michigan 8-7 vs PU, at NU, at NEB
8. Iowa 7-8 at MD, at UW, vs PSU
9. Nebraska 6-8 at MSU, vs ILL, at MIN, vs U-M
10. Penn State 6-9 at MIN, vs OSU, at Iowa
Illinois 6-9 at NEB, vs MSU, at RU
12. Ohio State 5-10 vs UW, at PSU, vs IU
Indiana 5-10 vs NU, at PU, at OSU
14. Rutgers 2-14 vs MD, vs ILL

There's still a small chance at a double bye if we win a tiebreaker in what would be a four-way tie for 4th place. And utter chaos where two double byes could be up for grabs if MD craps the bed two more times as they did tonight against Minnesota.

I could see MSU going 1-3 the rest of the way. They've had problems with Nebraska even when they were a tournament team.

because of all the B1G alums in the area, and the accessibility.  Always had a good time there.  I've heard good things about Indy because the tournament basically takes over downtown.

MSG next year should be pretty good because of the number of alums in NYC (especially us), but I agree that DC doesn't make any sense and could be a bit of train wreck.  I actually think we'll have much better representation than most teams though.

excited to see how the team does in Big10 Tourney. I'm okay with whoever we play as long we don't get TV Teddy as a ref. If that happens I'm not going to watch.

I just don't know. I was pretty confident going into Minnesota. That was a mistake. And playing down to Rutgers . . . Smh. When three things happen, Michigan can play with anyone:

  • Michigan has their shots falling,
  • Stay out of trouble in terms of fouls
  • Play solid defense, including rebounding

The problem is, there don't seem to be any guarantees on those three things.

going into Minnesota.  We shot terrible from FTs, got badly taken for about 7-9 points by the refs, and still tied them in regulation.  And they just beat Maryland by a lot on the road. They're good and we're better.

And we shot badly against Rutgers, despite having a ton of open shots.  It was supposed to be a single digit game.

We're playing well and can play a lot better.

The Minnesota game was actually quite encouraging to me save rebounding. That was a terrible situation for the team (road game, bad whistle, poor shots) and they nearly pulled it out. Gives me lots of confidence going against NU. And Rutgers at home is a tougher team than we give them credit. Had UM hit their foul shots, they win by 8 or 9 and we are all fine with it.

That 13 v 12 line..

As for the rest of the tourney so much parity that I think on any given day almost anyone can beat anyone from 1 to 7. Purdue is the one team some teams will have difficulty matching up with due to the beef but even the Maryland's and Wisconsin's could be early knockouts based on any given day.

Being a jump shooting team and watching earlier tournaments where we lose our legs in day 3, the more byes the better.  And that was with some years we played deeper into the bench than our current 8 player rotation.

Like others, I am not completely on board with having the conference tournament in DC, but alas we must concede to the Great Footprint Argument of Jim Delany.

As for playing Penn State in the opener if the season ended now, I am fairly sure we could beat them again although I would rather a more comfortable margin this time. Actually, since the season isn't over, I would rather we beat Nebraska and Northwestern and hopefully inch upwards in the seeding.
