B1G Softball Tournament time: #7 seed MSU @ #2 seed MICHIGAN

Submitted by rob f on

Tune in to BTN if you haven't yet done so, as the game just started.  Betsa walked the first spartie, but mowed down the rest of the lineup with ease in the top of the first.

Bottom of 1, Michigan at bat, no score...

Now in the top of the 2nd, Betsa K's the first spartan hitter, and then walks the next batter on what was clearly a strike.

thru the first 2 innings (should have been 4, as that bad-call walk in the 2nd was on a full count).

Oh-ohhh...On yet another full count, she gives up the 1st spartie hit to start the 3rd. This followed by a long fly that appears to have bounced off the top of the fence, runner scores and the hitter goes to 3rd on the throw to home.

on that long spartan fly ball, and we're still scoreless.  That ball just barely missed being caught...then the relay to the plate appeared to probably have been barely on time but popped out of our catcher's mitt....and then the throw to 3rd just a hair late.

Instead, State gets a pair of runs before Betsa settles back down.

Now msu 2-0 with the bottom of the third underway.

as Abby Ramirez  grounded out to end the 3rd after hitting a 2-hopper to the spartie 3rd baseman that never hit foul territory until bouncing off the spartan glove.

But no, we have yet to hit the ball very hard.

Betsa just mowed down spartie 1-2-3 in the top of 4, so we're back up.  Need some hits!!!

The relay to the plate was there, but the runner's foot touched it so Alexander couldn't get it cleanly. Just bad luck. On the triple, Peters forgot that Foerster is left-handed. She looked over the wrong shoulder. Wouldn't have been an easy catch, but she would have had a good chance. That's why you remind your outfielders when a lefty's at the plate. Hopefully, they can get the bats going. MSU is one of those teams with 1A and 1B pitching, very different styles. This is going to be a grind - especially if they get another inning out of Zalewsky.

Leadoff single off the right field wall by Faith Canfield, followed by a single to left by Falk.

Runners on 1st and 2nd, nobody down, Tera Blanco strides to the plate...

Sac fly by Uden brings in a run, now 2 down with a runner on 2nd BEGGING to come home.

C'mon, let's tie this up here!   Mighty Lindsey at the plate...

getting squeezed, then gives up a full-count weak pop-up that falls between 3 Michigan gals in short right field.

 Spartie on 1st, none down.

Megan gets a bit too frustrated with the ball-strike calls when she gets squeezed.  And today she just doesn't look very sharp.

Right now, 2 down, runners at the corners as spartie follows with a hit and then a force out to 2nd.

....and a pop to Monty at 3rd for out #3, Megan and Michigan escape a big jam.

Still 2-2.

Time for a big MEEEEECHIGAN rally!

Kelly Christner with a hard-hit double to the opposite field.

We're back in business!   Abby Ramirez  sharply grounds to the hole between 3rd and SS, bounces of the diving 3rd baseman's glove.

Runners at the corners for Faith Canfield...

for out #2.

Canfield still at first....

....and an error on a bullet to 3rd, runners on 1st and 2nd, Uden at the plate.

Better Betsa starting the top of 6th well.

And now another K, but then a walk.

Two down, runner at first for spartie.

Still 4-2, as a harmless popup to left ends the inning for the green ones.

Sure would be nice to tack on some insurance runs here in our half of the 6th.

Lead off spartie on with a bad HBP to the foot.  Megan obviously lost the grip there.

Followed by a weak pop single to shallow left.

2 on, none down.

C'mon, Blue, lets clamp down here!

Betsa gives up a sharp single to the RF corner, scoring a run, the hitter Foerster going to 2nd on the throw towards the plate.

Now 4-3, runners at 2nd and 3rd, none down.
