Yeah, except none of the people that perpetuate the "Jersey Shore" stereotype never go to college, let alone Rutgers.

having the internet to voice our complaint

Priceless. There are some things that money can't buy...maybe?

For everything else there's mastercard.

Seriously though, I never took the time to be thankful that I can express my opinion and maybe have some impact on issues that would have been out of my control if it were not for the internet.

Shane Morris

This will basically depend on Shane Morris (or Wilton Speight), IMO...because I think he'll have a crazy amount of talent around him. 12-0 is definitely doable with the prospects we're bringing in. Obviously they have to get better, pan out, gel, etc. but it starts with recruiting.

Minnesota might actually be

Minnesota might actually be pretty good by then, but damn, that is an extremely favorable schedule considering that we're playing 3 OK teams and 1 cupcake in the non-conference as opposed to ND, 2 cupcakes, and an OK team. Maryland as the Big 10 opener is going to be a rough travel for the players, but hopefully on-field performance isn't too affected.

Unless you are saying any travel would be "rough", why is Maryland any rougher than going most other venues?  Admittedly, I do not know the details of how they travel, but it seems like once you get on the plane it really doesn't matter whether you're going to Madison, Wi, St. Paul MN or Maryland.

Yeah, shouldn't be rough

They can prepare for the venue by practicing in an empty stadium, it will be just like game day.

ARE YE DAFT, MAN?

Maryland will be "rough"??? Dood, Maryland is going to be like a home game.  The crowd is going to be >50% UM fans.  There are so many UM, OSU, and PSU fans in the DC area, Maryland is going to nearly sell out their games, but not with fans rooting for them.  Every potentially available ticket for the UM game is going to be gobbled up by UM fans.  Remember Northwestern "road" games where there'd be all those UM fans?  That'll be Maryland games, but even better for us.

A lot can happen between now and then. They have some pretty good talent there. They would have been a good team last season if it weren't for the 10 injured quarterbacks.

it's highly likely that the

it's highly likely that the Maryland game will be played at FedEx Field, home of the Redskins.

Delaney and Co. have repeatedly talked up the appeal of having the premire B1G teams - Michigan, Ohio State, Penn State, Nebraska - playing at the Meadowlands and FedEx Field.

That was one of the main drivers of the decison to add Maryland and Rutgers . . . not so much to bring Maryland and Rutgers to the Big Ten, but to be able to bring the Big Ten to DC and NYC.

I would rather have an on-campus experience myself, but I'm just a fan and therefore don't count.  We may never actually play at the Maryland or Rutgers campus.  Those places will likely remain a mystery to us forever.

I am genuinely curious as to why you don't like the Thursday night opener.  Is that because you attend all the home games, and it throws off your work, home, family schedule?  Living far away, I don't attend many games, so a Thursday night opener in prime-time is pretty cool in my world.

I made a fuss about this when it was announced because I have this job thing that doesn't allow me to be in front of a TV by the time these weeknight games start. They haven't announced a start time yet, but since Michigan is the spotlight team, I imagine they'll give it an early start.

Also - good teams don't need to play on weeknights.

Alternating Maryland/Rutgers

Alternating Maryland/Rutgers home/away is actually ideal for those of us on the East Coast, since we'll always have at least one game that's only a short train ride away.

Well then, who is "night game worthy?"

Ohio will never be a night game even if per B1G rules it could be...which it isn't.

ND is off the schedule.

I guess you could schedule another non-conference team to come in and play at night...I've actually been saying this for YEARS. Back when everyone wanted just 1 night game and other people wanted alternate jerseys. I always said appease these folks for one night and one game...go crazy. Night game with maize jerseys...I don't care. Just keep the other 7 home games at noon or 3:30 with everything "MICHIGAN" the way it's always been.

My only thought was to play a mid-level BCS team like Cal, Ole Miss, UNC, etc. someone that you might be able to get into Ann Arbor without a home and home.

Anyway, if it's not MSU...who's "worthy?" PSU? Wisconsin?

If it's going to be a conference game, MSU is really the only team I'd like to play it against. It's Michigan arrogance, but I don't think anyone else is worthy (outside of Ohio, and again, that's never happening because it's November and it's Ohio and we should never make that a night game...ever, even if we could do it in Ford Field with 1 million dollars to the winner).

You're thinking about the

You're thinking about the 2015 schedule using a 2012 paradigm. There are two seasons (13 and 14) still to be played before we know what the teams on the '15 schedule are going to be like.

And the chances are good that at least one of Oregon State, BYU, or Northwestern will be quite good in two years. Oregon State flirts with being a quality team every few years, and indeed was quite strong this season; BYU and Northwestern are both rising programs.

I think it is possible, even likely, that Northwestern will be a clear-cut better team than MSU by 2015, and that there is a very good chance that they will be a top-4 program in the conference. That's an attractive night-game matchup if anything is.

The larger point, though, is that we don't really know--and that there is a good chance that there will be a night-worthy game that year.

No I'm not...

I'm thinking about it using the arrogant Michigan fan paradigm...

That says "who is WORTHY" of a night game in Michigan stadium? It's not really about how good you are.

Sure if one of those teams is top 5, then yes, I'd say they're worthy.

But Northwestern hosts MICHIGAN as their night game, Michigan doesn't do that. Come on. This is Michigan.

That's like ND breaking out the green uniforms for Purdue. I don't care how bad ND is or how good Purdue is...they can't do that. Night games and alternate uniforms are for big games or special occasions, IMO. If we came out in those block M "throw backs" from UTL 1 vs. Rutgers it would be more of a joke than having to play Rutgers in the first place.

It may sound silly, but it makes perfect sense in my head.

In what world is MSU "worthy"

But PSU and Wisconsin (or Nebraska) not? That's some strange arrogance.

And to me the whole idea of a night game is added home field advantage. So if we see the season before BYU or Oregon State, or yes, Northwestern is going to be good, I have no problem with those being a night game.

The world of rivalries...

The world of rivalries...MSU is a different level, as is ND. Not saying PSU/Wisconsin/Nebraska are the same as IU/Purdue/Rutgers. Just saying OSU, MSU and ND are higher. IMO, Michigan shouldn't do special things for non-rivals.

RE: well, no home night games for

You are probably right, but Penn State will be the third night game at the Big House when we host them in 2014, so it is possible the novelty will have worn off a bit by 2015.

If that is the case, maybe if Oregon State or BYU are pre-season ranked we would try to make that a perceived third marquee game, and do it under the lights. Possibly Northwestern if they are coming off a West Division championship?

As expected, the schedule

As expected, the schedule sets up nicely. Only problem is that we'll have a new QB...but at least hopefully oodles of talent around him at least. Kind of wish the 2014 and 2015 schedules would be flipped. If Gardner returns, the 2014 team could be very good.

Probably a new QB, yes, but

Probably a new QB, yes, but one who has gotten a lot of practice reps and film time, if not a bit of game action as well (even if Gardner is there for all of 2014, as I'd expect).  Bellomy, Shane, and Speight should all be there competing for the starting job - each having had at least one year on the team.

Anyone see OSU's schedule?

Their crossover games are Illinois and Minnesota...arguably the two worst teams in the West division.  One of the takeaways from Brian Bennett on ESPN's B1G Blog:

"Ohio State again looks set up for success, as the Buckeyes first three Big Ten road games are at Indiana, at Rutgers and at Illinois before the season-ender in Ann Arbor. Penn State is the only traditional league power Ohio State will play until the final two weeks of the regular season, and the Lions come to the 'Shoe."

I love how people are already proclaiming an undefeated regular season as possible (some even probable) three years into the future.

I'm sure Auburn fans said the same thing when their 2012 schedule came out.

Everybody with a brain

Everybody with a brain

EDIT: that came off way more a-hole-ish than I intended; was ment to be more sarcastic.  I always got the impression that most outside of Auburn fans who watched Chizik's teams shaw poorly coached and undicisplined teams both at Iowa State and his first year at Auburn.  Then he manages to buy Cam Newton and get a great coordinator in Malzahn (but still mostly Newton here), plugs into a decently talented team, and has a magical year.  A magical year that rode Newton to an NC in one of the best  individual seasons ever.  They had the worst D of any team to win a national championship, and still played undisciplined.  The way the team and Chizik conducted himself showed little had acutally changed in the way of his coaching.  So yes, I do think that many who actually analyzed the situation could recognize that Chizik's 2010 season was a complete abberation to what should normally be expected from him.  I will admit that it was a bit suprised by how quickly he fell back to the depths though.

Doesn't EVERY fan base do that?

1/2 of it is said jokingly (i.e. "12-0, book it.) The other 1/2 are fans that think "we've got a legit shot...if."

I certainly don't look at this schedule and see any automatic losses. But it'll depend on the QB situation, IMO. If this was DG's redshirt senior season, I'd really like our chances with the young talent that we're bringing in. I'd see Ohio as the biggest threat and we've got them at home in 2015.

It's definitely not Alabama in Dallas, ND and Ohio on the road difficult.

We've also got a legit shot

We've also got a legit shot if we score more points than the other teams. It's one of those annoying things fans say that really just don't have any substance. Individually it's not a big deal, but when it gets parroted over and over again it gets pretty aggravating. For other offenses in this category, see "the better team won" and the majority of comments about academic prestige.

Depends on the QB, and the roster around him. We know that the recruits Hoke has brought in have the potential to be good enough to overwhelm the whole conference save one, but we don't know how things will actually turn out. Hoke is recruiting to make Michigan Alabama 2.0, and perhaps that will happen--if Michigan has a great enough O-line, quality at the skill positions, and an impenetrable defense (as we hope and is actually a possibility) then Shane or Wilton can succeed even if they are never better than game manager types.

But if things go a bit crosseyed, as is always a possibility, Michigan's success will hinge on the development of Shane Morris as a big-play QB, and on Al's ability to put him in situations to make those plays. Neither of these are sure things.

The table should be set well

The table should be set well this year for a championship run. The one hitch could be the QB like you mention. If DG stays two more years than 2015 will be the first year starting for the new QB, so they may still be a little green. But I am hoping that two years learning under Gardner will prepare them well and they'll be ready.

Very strong home schedule and definitely looking forward to making the trips to Utah and Maryland for the first time. We'll probably also avoid a Penn State night game being that it is late November, unless the conference allows November night games by 2015.

I Wondered About That...

When the conference switches to the nine-game conference schedule, it could very well be another couple years after that depending on how it works out. If you play all six in your division plus three from the other division, then it is entirely possible that we don't see them in 2016 or 2017 if Wisconsin is the theoretical "seventh team" in that scenario. An eight-year gap is a real potential.

Anyone else genuinely bothered that our OOC schedule makes it look like we're preparing to bolt to the Pac12 and/or MWC any day now?  Is this like a Plan B in case the B1G merges with C-USA?  Srsly, playing four Far West teams in a row?  Never seen any team this far East do anything like that.  (And getting three of the four to come here!)

Could add a one-off in 2016 to spice that up, or even a 2016-17 home-and-home. We have Cincinnati coming to the Big House in 2017 so far.

Glad. Most people don't know that Syracuse and Michigan were rivals when Michigan left the Western Conference in 1907.

Rekindled the rivalry in 1998-1999 and it was still even all those years later.

I'm liking the four straight

I'm liking the four straight bye weeks after MSU. Should have plenty of time to prepare for the PSU/OSU games.

It's amazing how often

we get a big name team right before OSU.  At least they get MSU the week before, and not Indiana or something.

Undefeated

Whoa.  Easiest schedule we have had or will have for years.  Morris will be a (hopefully) RS Sophomore at that point.  Green will be a junior.  Our beastly 2012-2013 O-Lines will be Junior/Seniors.  Only remotely tough away game (don't tell me Utah is tough.  If Utah is tough then we won't be any good anyways) is @ PSU who will obviously be depleted by that point despite their admirable recruiting efforts of late.  As long as Morris is not a bust (and I don't think he will be), we should go undefeated.  OSU is only tough game.  MSU will be same ol' Sparty by our standards by then.

Michigan will be loaded in talent by this year

Their toughest match-up will of course be OSU, but I love that we would get them at home.  At Penn St could be tough too, but after that, Michigan SHOULD win all these games.

I usually don't make predictions like this, but I am highly confident Michigan will be in the NC discussion the entire year, and it will surprise me if they go in the post-season with more than one loss.

Sept.
Sept. 3 HAWAII
Sept. 10 Open
Sept. 17 COLORADO
Sept. 24 BALL STATE

With this as our non conference in 2016, the 2016 home schedule might be worse than 2014 unless Sparty owes us two home games in a row.

I wonder

If we would find a way to move the Ball State game to 2017, pair that with Cincy as the non-conference home games to go with MSU and OSU as conference home games, and try to get a big-time home-and-home going for 2016-17.

That would at least give as a strong home schedule in 2017, and go a long way towards strengthening the 2016 home slate. Also, Wisco and/or Nebraska would likely be on the 2016 home schedule since it would be severely unbalanced to have OSU, MSU, and Wisco/Neb all home or away during the same season.

I can't get over how they've

I can't get over how they've screwed up the MSU/OSU alignment.  They shouldn't both be home (or away) in the same year.  We've got to complain to the league office about that.

Looks like my tentative plan to get rid

Of my 4 season tickets in 2014 gets even closer to becoming the official decision.

2 kids and living in Chicago, it just becomes a better business decision to stubhub it for the games I want to attend vs. buying them all.
