Great to hear this.
November 30th, 2016 at 6:21 PM ^
This was the lock of the century. He's a Mackey Award finalist fergodsakes.
November 30th, 2016 at 6:48 PM ^
He sounded neither surprised nor surpirsed--just happy!
November 30th, 2016 at 6:03 PM ^
Can we get a link? Who are the first team WRs?
November 30th, 2016 at 6:06 PM ^
Gotta include Austin Carr

WRs are Austin Carr and Curtis Samuel
November 30th, 2016 at 6:08 PM ^
I don't know, man. That just didn't look like an offensive line with four of the five winning B1G honors.
November 30th, 2016 at 6:10 PM ^
I think all 5 won including the honorable mention

Don't get me wrong. Happy to see our guys getting recognized. Just didn't look like a group of award winners at different junctures throughout the season.
November 30th, 2016 at 6:40 PM ^
Yeah I gotcha. Not enough consistency for sure, especially in the run game

I thought only Magnuson would get one. Cool to see Bredeson included though. Sky's the limit for him.

Braden would have been a first team guard had he not had to move to tackle. And Kalis fell off the wall the last few games. Remember that he was the best OL of the bunch through the first 8 games, or so. Surprised everybody! But he's come back down to Kalis-Earth the last few games, unfortunately.
Congrats to the dudes!!! But the real award will be a CFP date with Alabama...
November 30th, 2016 at 7:47 PM ^
Kalis stepped up and then went backward this year. Mags was maybe our best OL but he was very average and if that is a 1st team All-conference OT than this was a bad year for OL in general. Cole just wasn't going to have the type of impact in his first season of moving inside so he was about as I expected. The left side was out of position, young and/or hurt.

Yes but people seem to think Eihflen* is great and he was worked by the Michigan defensive line.
November 30th, 2016 at 6:08 PM ^
For POS of the Year in the B1G!
November 30th, 2016 at 6:13 PM ^
You can count on my vote.
November 30th, 2016 at 6:21 PM ^
Love little mike, he truly is the future of Ohio state. I see him losing his next three. He's still limping away with all of them. Ha, all scared...

I believe you mean the David Boston POS of the year award
November 30th, 2016 at 6:28 PM ^
Besides being part of OSU, what did he do to deserve those accolades?
November 30th, 2016 at 6:30 PM ^
At one point, he took a high blindside shot at Brandon Watson after the play was over. No reason and of course no flag.
November 30th, 2016 at 6:45 PM ^
I hate him.

He also had a very petulant moment with a ref after Gideon rode him out of bounds. He didn't like that, so he stared at the ref for a couple of seconds, and dropped the ball on the ground at the refs feet. That is when the OSU fanboy ref slapped his hiney as he essentially trotted through the ref back to the huddle. A very immature moment that was borderline PF territory.

Mike Dantonio for dignified attitude of the year

Darboh was one helluva second team

JT Barrett sucks and is living off of the past few years. All he can do is run and we mostly bottled him up in this game.
November 30th, 2016 at 6:19 PM ^
McSorely is 2nd team QB!?!? That's just the saddest thing in the world. Him over speight is an epic fail. We crushed the life out of that guy. That's just awful man.
November 30th, 2016 at 6:22 PM ^
McSorely has actually had a very nice year.

I'd say it's a toss up. But definitely not the "saddest thing in the world"

Looked like a lost puppy against UM and osu. There wasn't a single moment in either game where I thought well that's a 2nd team B1G QB. No chance. I don't care what he did when they ran the score up on Purdue and rutgers. We pulled our starters after the first half in games like that and he played the whole game. QBR be damned.
November 30th, 2016 at 6:28 PM ^
We definitely shut him down, along with Barkley and their WRs. He didn't have success throwing against OSU but he ran pretty well. He also throws a pretty deep ball... Either way, it doesn't matter. Speight will beat JT for first team next year. Book it

Barrett isn't really a good QB, maybe average thrower, but he's a phenomenal runner. He works in Meyer's offense because of his skill set, but no way will he be playing QB on Sundays. As far as being a QB in the traditional sense Speight is already far ahead of him imho.
November 30th, 2016 at 7:25 PM ^
Yup, 100% agree. I'm not sure if Barrett can be converted to another position, either. He doesn't have Braxton Miller's speed nor Pryor's size/speed. Maybe a team will give him a shot in the slot? I really am not sure if he has good hands, guess we will find out eventually. Great college player but am not sure how any NFL team finds him valuable enough to make a 53 man roster.
November 30th, 2016 at 9:36 PM ^
Somebody will try him at RB. He's too high profile to not go in the draft...
November 30th, 2016 at 11:31 PM ^
I really don't expect J.T. Barrett to be even drafted or stick with someones practice squad.
November 30th, 2016 at 10:39 PM ^
And Meyer's offense isn't a great one to prepare QBs for the pros. It's designed to simplify the number of reads they have to make. To go from there to an NFL offense has to be a huge transition.
November 30th, 2016 at 6:23 PM ^
He definitely improved over the course of the season. Fairly good decision maker too: he'd eat a sack or just throw it away vs. throwing a bad pick (only 5 INTs on the year).
November 30th, 2016 at 6:24 PM ^
Name checks out. All jokes aside, I agree with you. Nice year for the kid. Him and Speight are worlds better at throwing a football than JT.

James Franklin ran the score up any chance he could to compensate for his team's mediocrity. When they get stomped by wisconsin and your second best win is what? Temple? cuz we know how much of a struggle that's been for you. But seriously IU? It really is the saddest thing in my world that McSorely is somehow 2nd team and you are in the big ten champ. You lost to PITT and UM by 39!
November 30th, 2016 at 6:47 PM ^
Come on, man. He didn't show up throwing shade and talking smack. He backed up his point with some stats and was well-meaning. No sense in escalating it with a fan of another team who comes in peace.
November 30th, 2016 at 6:59 PM ^
I didn't really like it. But Dantonio and James Franklin don't seem to like each other --- that has been apparent to me since 2014. So that probably played a role in the "let's keep on passing the ball" TD to make it 45-12. Fair enough.
But besides that, I can't think of a single example of Franklin running up the score in 2016. He certainly had more chances than just the MSU game. PSU had the ball at the end of the Maryland, Rutgers, and Iowa games --- exclusively ran the ball on each drive but didn't punch it in despite being inside the 25 at the game's final whistle.
November 30th, 2016 at 8:03 PM ^
As I think the broadcast showed, that was justifiable vengeance for the "let's run up the score by handing off to an offensive lineman" tgat Sparty pulled last year
November 30th, 2016 at 6:56 PM ^
Their second best win may be Iowa, who Michigan couldn't beat a week later.
November 30th, 2016 at 10:37 PM ^
Just realized that Pitt beat 2 division champs - Clem and PSU. Lost by 3 to Va Tech. Talk about inconsistent.

17 total by my count on offense, defense, and ST. holy shit. Beating osu by 3. This team was fucking great. Gonna miss this senior class big time.

But does that number count Kenny Allen twice or just once? He was second team punter and HM at kicker
November 30th, 2016 at 6:44 PM ^
No, once I think. Entire defense (11), entire O Line (16), Smith, Butt, Speight, Darboh, Chesson, Allen (22).
