B1G Media Poll: 27 Votes for OSU to Win League, 11 Votes for U-M

Submitted by BursleyHall82 on

In advance of the Big Ten Media Days next week, the Cleveland Plain Dealer polled the B1G media, asking who will win the league. There were 27 votes for OSU and 11 votes for us. And one for Iowa. None for Rutgers.

The Big Ten itself used to do this poll, but stopped a few years ago, so the Plain Dealer picked it up. The whole poll is kind of interesting.

Most of the media who votes in this poll are Ohio based writers. They are also 0-5 on picking the correct champ since its inception. So yeah.

For now, despite Sparty winning the league last year, OSU is "The Man" in the Big Ten.  That can all chanage this November, though.

As someone we may see visit the Michigan locker room this year still likes to say:  "If you wanna be the man, you gotta beat the man.  Wooooo!"

Phil Steele likes Osu to win it as well.  He likes their talent as he points out they had the #1 recruiting class in the B1G that last 5 years and they will be plenty expericenced by the time they play in late Nov.   He also thinks Michigan's last 5 games with the 3 tough road games is too tough a task.

I preferably like not being picked to win considering all the hype and betting line love that we are getting.

I didn't say that nor did anyone else. Some people prefer less pre-season recognition and hype.  I would rather the players not continually hear about how high they are ranked and how they are one of the favorites to win it all during the pre-season. I would rather they start with a feeling that they are being slighted and go out and prove it - kind of like last year.

recruiting and performance on the field last year. If people weren't talking it's because you have no talent on the team in their view meaning you suck and you have to over perform.

I'd rather have the talent and trust Harbaugh to keep their heads on straight. Keeping guys under the radar may have been possible 30 years ago. Not so much now so your argument makes no sense. I want top players and I'll take the hype that comes with it.

1.  Can we run the ball?

2.  Can we get decent linebacker play?

If the answer to both those questions is yes, then look out world cause shit is about to get real

"And I can sum it all up in just one word: courage, dedication, daring, pride, pluck, spirit, grit, mettle, and G-U-T-S, guts. Why, Ted Striker's got more guts in his little finger than most of us have in our large intestine, including the colon!"

I cannot wait to get to the time that we can graduate or draft as many starters as OSU did this past year and STILL be the favorite to win the conference and/or national title.

MSU was lucky all year. They had close games against Rutgers, Purdue, hell, even WMU.

And they relied in a 1 in 1000 fluke play against us to win, and an inept offensive game plan from OSU. If you play out last year 100 times, I think MSU wins the conference about 5 of them. They were definitely not as good as their record.

Then they humiliated themselves in the Playoff and now nobody remembers any of those good things that went their way.

Their Cinderella season wound up splattered in pumpkin seeds on the castle driveway.
