B1G humor - Is this fair? Gophers enlist Dramatic Gopher (Chipmunk)

Submitted by superstringer on

Anyone hear about this -- Minnie using its natural advantage of being named after gophers to use an Internet sensation, which actually is a chipmunk, to distract opposing kickers.  But they had to wait until last Saturday to do it, because every other opponent's FG attempt this season (home games only, natch) faced away from the scoreboard.

Seems that's a little unfair -- what's next, vids of naked coeds?  (Not at Minnie, of course.  Ewww.)

Yes, distraction from all things Hoke, Peppers, the coming beatdown, etc etc etc.  I've sort of had it with football this week; Tom's performance (second half and OT only, of course) on Monday night has been about the only redeeming item to the entire week.  Srsly, I actually found myself today wondering:  If USC doesn't hire Ed Orgeron, would he make a good... no, wait, maybe Charlie Strong...  STOP THE PAIN!  Gimme -- Dramatic Gopher!

I was in the stands and saw it live.  It was clever and funny in the midst of a game played in 10 degree weather where the Gophers couldn't muster an offensive score, on a weekend where Michigan lost to Iowa, meaning this was the best thing I saw all day.

Well done Minnesota socreboard operator, I hope it warmer than where you were.

Classic, well played Minnesota.  I am sure the NCAA will issue a 40 page rule prohibiting this kind of thing since it is fun and really should not impact the game at all.  (Dude, just make the damn kick.)

It does remind me of a reply I saw where Larry Bird is at the line and these two guys behind the basket stand up and unroll two life size posters of girls in bikinis.  Bird saw it and started laughing.  He had to step off the line as the crowd cheered like crazy for the two clowns who distracted one of the game's greats.  I can't remember if Bird stepped to the line and made his shots or not.  But, it was Larry Bird, so, yeah, I bet he made them.
