B1G Hockey Championship Game
The pregame show is on, the beer is cold, its Saturday night now lets win this fucking thing and get back in the big tournament.
whats on the line: Michigan NEEDS to win to make it into the NCAA Tournament. Minnesota will make the tournament with a win and have a strong chance of advancing even with a loss (it is NOT a given as there is one scenario where they could be left out).
this game will come down to goaltending. Racine needs to keep up his good play at the Joe but Michigan will need to keep the pressure on Wilcox (who looked like the Wilcox of old last night with the shutout against Ohio State) and fight for the rebounds in the crease.
I'm not going to bring up the running theme of these threads thursday and friday because we all get it and expected it.
WIN THE GAME!!!

Sucks to be out of the tournament for so long. All that offensive talent having to be done for the year

WD Thread about Red's future in 3... 2....
March 21st, 2015 at 10:23 PM ^
Welp, that's that. One more year of this and it's over?
March 21st, 2015 at 10:23 PM ^
Great job by Racine. Too bad there were too many missed opportunities during the season.
March 21st, 2015 at 10:25 PM ^
If this is "the lightswitch going on" for Racine, we should be in a good spot next year. Racine was money in this tournament. Confident goaltending like we haven't seen consistently since Tiny Jesus

Nothing to be ashamed of
March 21st, 2015 at 10:23 PM ^
Well, we're inching closer to the moribund end of the Red era.
March 21st, 2015 at 10:44 PM ^
Do you think if we had won it all in 2011 he would've retired then? Would've been a far better end to a great career than this fizzle out

TWO shots at winning a Big Ten Title and two complete utter FAILURES

Single elimination hockey. You've slain me again.
March 21st, 2015 at 10:25 PM ^
If they played as hard and desperate every night like they did this tournament, the season wouldn't be over.
March 21st, 2015 at 10:24 PM ^
same shit different year
March 21st, 2015 at 10:24 PM ^
Much like several in years past, we've tried real hard at the very end and we gave ourselves some hope only to fall short because we failed too much before.
If Red wants to come back, whatever. We might be able to make the tournament next year. Hopefully Pearson will be on the bench in Ann Arbor within the next 2 years.
Welcome to the sad silence of the offseason everyone.

I think WD said it was 1978? or was it 1959? something like that...
March 21st, 2015 at 10:29 PM ^
When football won a share of the Big Ten. So it shouldn't really count. 1968 was the last season where nobody performed well enough for a postseason.
March 21st, 2015 at 10:29 PM ^
1973, but that's with an asterisk given the 10-0-1 Football team tying the #1 team in the country and getting robbed by B1G ADs of the Rose Bowl and that being the only B1G bowl bid back then.
Legitimately, it would've been 1962, so it's basically been 53 freakin' years since our major sports have been this underachieving.
March 21st, 2015 at 10:30 PM ^
I think WD said it was in the 50's or something

If we play next year like we did this tournament, we'll be a tourney team next year. Red just has to get the team playing solid and inspired for a whole season. Not just for spurts.
March 21st, 2015 at 10:27 PM ^
Should also help that our two best defensemen won't be freshmen (I think Martin's better than Downing).
March 21st, 2015 at 10:31 PM ^
Usually defense seem to be best unnoticed. Downing still makes too many bad mistakes. I rarely find myself thinking "Dammit Cutler" while "Dammit Downing" is something that runs through my head usually once or twice a game
March 21st, 2015 at 10:33 PM ^
Ideally Downing is a 2nd pair defenseman. Which is where he might play next year if he doesn't take a step forward.
March 21st, 2015 at 10:55 PM ^
Example: the kid they put out against Hyman/Larkin all night. They were still good, since that's a Hobey finalist and next year's favorite, but relatively quiet outside a couple shifts.
March 21st, 2015 at 10:28 PM ^
this is what the program is right now under Red.
Too much evidence to go hunting for alternate answers.
Enough of this shit.
Unless you have the dream candidate lined up for the year after not next year.
March 21st, 2015 at 10:31 PM ^
He's gonna leave within one month or 13 months. The program is not being driven into the ground. There's still alot of talent, it's just underachieving. And Red is responsible for it. But I don't get the outrage and acting like we should be demanding Red retire now. Probably the same people that were pissed Hoke wasn't fired the day after the OSU game. Pearson is going to be candidate #1. How long do you think that phone call lasts if we make Red leave instead of letting him fulfill his contract?
March 21st, 2015 at 10:33 PM ^
I almost want Red to take that final year so such a legendary coach's career doesn't end in such a whimper. If he returns, hopefully we ride Racine and a team that should be collectively better next year into the tournament to send Red out decently
March 21st, 2015 at 10:35 PM ^
And I think it definitely could happen. We haven't been going 10-30 the last few years. We've been bubble teams. Need something to get us to focus week in and week out.
March 21st, 2015 at 10:35 PM ^
but I'm feeling fresh out of belief tonight.
