And why is Iowa in the finals? Their unis aren't even original! They took them from the Steelers!
So. Our winged helmets first were worn at Princeton. They came to us when Fritz Crisler came to AA.
We hired the man who invented the helmet design. That's a little different than just plain copying another team.
If we are being technical and smartass-ish and all that shit, Sparty actually donned a "winged helmet" before us but that doesn't diminish the greatness of our unis, does it? Most everyone back in the day had a form of the "winged helmet" but the Michigan unis are great because they haven't been changed in forever (unlike sparty) and weren't copied from a pro team (unlike Iowa).
Edit: And what has been mentioned above, we brought in the man who invented the helmets anyways.

It wasn't so much the wings as the three stripes that was the innovation. Only Crisler's teams had both. And obviously, Michigan was the only team to keep the look going even after plastic helmets were introduced.
I agree, but I also think PSU and USC should be in the conversation as 'elite' uniforms
IMO Ohio's unis are far superior to NDs and I hate Ohios uniforms... because they are Ohio but if I were from Mars and didnt know what a uni was...and you put Ohios next to ND...Id pick Ohio...and Id also like Oregon because they are green..but would hate Sparty cause we dont burn couches on Mars.

Isnt the story that when Hayden Frey got to Iowa, he changed the unis to mirror Pittsburgh because at the time the Steelers were the best team in football (1970s)? ... so that should disqualify their unis...cause they are a direct copy... though they do look nice.
Its good to see that the Nebraska ballot stuffers somehow missed this poll too.
