How on earth does anyone amass hundreds of points? I wish they would give points for being a recent graduate and then just have those ones expire over time. Or like based on attended games. I can't afford to donate thousands just for the option to buy tickets at this stage of my career

Consider, just being a season ticket holder:

  • 1 point for each consecutive season of season tickets since 1992
  • Football PSDs since...2006?  Basketball PSDs since...2010?

Neglect being a graduate (20 points) or letterwinner and any other donations to the University.

If one had only two (decent) football, basketball, and hockey seats since 1992, an estimate of points gained since that time would be roughly:

  • 3 sports * 2 seats * 25 years = 150 points for season ticket loyalty
  • 2 seats * $400 PSD (average) * 10 years = 80 points for football PSDs paid
  • 2 seats * $200 PSD (average) * 6 years = 24 points for basketball PSDs paid
  • Total: 254 points since 1992

If you move those football seats into the new box seats, the annual PSD increases to $1,550 per seat (or more).  Similar for basketball (and hockey).

Most of the blue-hairs have been around (at least) that long and can afford that kind of annual outlay.

EDIT: Whoops.  Was off by a factor of 100.  Sorry.

for my wife and I.  The bizarre thing is we have 40 points for letterwinner and neither of us played on any sports teams at Michigan.  WTH is that about I wonder - a mistake?  But with or without the 40 points we aren't close to the 400 needed to order tickets.

The secondary market is the way to go price-wise for this game.  Remember, every school gets an allottment plus the host city plus all the dignitaries so there becomes a LOT of tickets available as soon as the participants for the game are finalized.

The downside is you wont necesssarily be sitting with an entire section of Michigan fans.  The upside is your seat will prolly be better and they'll be cheaper.

You can bet your sweet ass that if Michigan is there, this game sells out. Or at least our allotment of tickets will sell out.

Wisconsin and especially Nebraska travel well, and they're both (so far) having good years. A Michigan vs. Nebraska or Michigan can. Wisconsin game sells out on both sides.

Nebraska used to travel well in the 70s, 80s and 90s when they competed in the Big 8/Big XII and few games were televised.

That's because most of their weak conference opponents were day trips -- Iowa State, Kansas and Kansas State -- as well as any game played in Kansas City.  During this time, Nebraska was 40-3-1 in road games against these three.

For those without NU season tickets, it was a way to see the Huskers live in person and almost always a guaranteed win.  HUS-KER HOME GAME  Clap, clap, clap-clap-clap.

For games outside the Central time zone, Nebraska hasn't traveled well since joining the Big Ten.

Husker fans haven't come close to a sold out regular season game in the state of Indiana so far -- and that includes two trips to West Lafayette and this year's game in Bloomington.

The 2012 Big Ten championship game vs. Wisconsin was the least attended of all of them -- attendance was around 41,000.

I don't see Husker fans showing up in great numbers should they make the championship game this year either -- it's a ten hour drive to Indy from Lincoln -- but mainly because there's a good chance Nebraska would lose.

And... they don't serve Runzas at Lucas Oil Stadium.

I bought a pair from Ticketmaster already.  My buddy paid out the nose for a pair of MSU tickets last year so I thought I'd beat the rush and sell (and hopefully break even) if we dont make it to Indy

Actually, no. If you want these tickets and downtown hotel you have to plan months in advance. Otherwise you'll pay out of your ass. As it stands now all downtown hotels are booked, ticketmaster is sold out and stubhub is outrageous. Common fan can't even attend these games anymore!

Question, so if say Nebraska & Wisconsin win out. Who's coming out of the West? Im guessing Nebraska, but Wisconsin has the head-to-head win.

look at staying at the Hampton Inn in Anderson, IN (I-69).  We stay there every year for the Indy 500.  Nice hotel, cheap and roughly a 45 minute drive to Lucas Oil.  Indy is a great venue for this championship, as downtown bars go all in on the parties and fun.   Stdium is easy walking distance from any downtown location.

I seem to remember it was 25k per school, but could be wrong.

There are only about 2.5k active donors with at least 400 priority points, meaning the school is only offering at most 7k tickets with this offer (1k donors have 750+ points = 4k tickets and 1.5k donors have between 400-749 points = 3k tickets).

I know they will reserve some tickets for the students and band, but the numbers don't add up, unless the ticket allottment per school has drastically changed since the first game in 2011.

Edit:  I found an article stating that Iowa only had 10k last year, so maybe it is only 10k, which would make the above numbers more understandable.

I have 6 that I bought through Lucas Oil Stadium for face value back in July...of course I live in Ohio so the resale of said tickets should I choose not to use them is lucrative...but check TicketMaster if you want tickets
