B1G Bowl picture

Submitted by Wolverine Devotee on

Making the huge assumption that PSU holds on to their 31-14 lead at #15 Wisconsin, the B1G Bowl picture has just gotten messy.

Wisconsin was a maybe for a BCS at-large bid.

The only known is that ohio will get a BCS bowl, win or lose in Indianapolis.

I personally want Michigan in the BWW Bowl because I think that gives them the best chance to win. Now if they play Georgia......interesting.

If Michigan state wins the Big10 title game we will have 2 BCS teams anyways, meaning Wisco is staying home.  If Ohio state wins we only get 1 bcs team and the rest is a mess.

If the team that took the field today shows up for our bowl game, we will crush whichever middling team we play.

If the team that took the field for the two months prior to today shows up for the bowl game, we will lose to whichever middling team we play.

I think you mean today's offense.  The defense today was pretty bad - I realize there were some key injuries but it was really quite bad in may aspects.  Furman in the 1st half was a sieve and 2nd half the entire team looked bad... we didnt offer much resistance on any drive in 2nd half, except one.

As for the offense who knows what will show up in 5 weeks.  On one hand you are pleased with what we see today on offense, on the other hand you are upset because you are asking where this was for weeks on end.

We were missing Ross, but I honestly feel like the defense today was pretty representative of how they've played all year. I think the defense is average to good this year. We haven't really been tested by a good offense (except for Indiana) until today. Our safeties have been shaky all year. Our tackling has been between mediocre and good. Pass rush was okay, but generally not there. We haven't seen any back like Hyde before today--destroyed arm tackles that we usually get by with--nor QBs like Miller. They're a tough, tough team to defend.

There aren't a whole lot of offenses like OSU's out there. Our defense should do okay against a middle-of-the-road bowl team.

At last report - and this will likely get updated in the next day or two - ESPN's prognosticators had us either in the Texas Bowl versus Texas Tech or in the Gator Bowl versus Georgia. As someone mentioned, as of right now (subject to normal Sunday update), Jerry Palm has us in the Gator Bowl versus Vanderbilt.

I think we would match up well against TT. They don't have a huge OL or DL so we will do well in the trenches and their secondary is quite weak. I think Gardner would have field day. I would go to this bowl game!

Unless MSU looks horrid they will have a very good chance to go to BCS with (a) wisconsin losing and (b) Fresno State losing.  The Fresno State loss opened up 1 new at large.  Baylor, Oregon, MSU will be grappling for 2 spots IMO.

Would be very nice, but unlikely. I know, I know, we went to the Gator Bowl a few years back at 7-5, but we laid the Humpty Dumpty of eggs at that game.

This is going to sound crazy, but I am somewhat hoping for Little Caesars. I have never seen Michigan play in the post season and there's not a snowball's chance in Hell that my wife would let me spend the money to go now that we have Catholic school for our son next year and college for our daughter in two years. Ford Field is the best I can hope for, as sad as that is to write.

There is absolutely no chance whatsoever Michigan goes to the LCPB.

The B1G only has 7 teams eligible. The lowest Michigan could fall would be the Heart of Dallas Bowl. But even then, they will not fall that low. Even if they went 6-6, they would still make the Gator at worst. Minnesota is going to get screwed. They're going to be 8-4 and could fall as low as the Heart of Dallas.

Gator took a horrendous 6-6 ohio team in 2011 and likes crappy teams to accompy their crappy stadium & crappy city.

Now this all changes if sparty wins the B1G title game. Then the B1G will no doubt get 2 BCS bids, bumping everyone up a spot.

I just want to win a bowl game and be happy about something.

a 48-28 home thrashing by Wisconsin, and

a 37-7 beatdown @ Columbus.

It's a different ending to this season.  With some O-Line experience and 15 practices to drill the lesson learned home, we might be a pretty darn good team come bowl  time.

would be preferable since they don't have a QB. They lost their All American QB Aaron Murrey for the season.

This "moral victory" will bring the entire staff back next year.

FWIW, OSU has a poor defense and it really showed today. I would hate to see them play in the NC because they well get embarrassed and embarrass the B1G.

Is MSU guaranteed a BCS bowl even if they lose?  If so good for them.

Also - I thought OSU matched up much better with Bama than FSU.  FSU is straight up scary.

MSU will be a top 10 team and won't fall too much with a loss to OSU.  I think they are BCSing.  Auburn or Mizzou are playing for a defacto BCS bowl with Alabama getting the nod as the second SEC team.

So....

Rose gets first pick and would likely take MSU vs PAC12 Champ (Stanford or ASU)

Orange gets second & third pick likely Alabama vs Oregon

Sugar fourth pick  SEC Champ (Auburn) vs NIU or UCF

Fiesta fifth pick BIG12 Champ (Okie St) vs UCF or NIU
