B1G Awards/All-Conf show on BTN right now
They just showed Beilein and Stauskas being mic'd up in the intro saying "we'll talk to our winners"
Here we go!
Also said "coaches of the year," so kind of sounds like Miles and Beilein tied. Which seems fair, actually.
what I predicted this a.m. on another thread.
Seems like the Big Ten has a lot of ties for awards. Are these actual even votes or is there a panel that says "feels like both guys deserve it this year"?
The Big Ten is annoyingly egalitarian. See: The ridiculous double names on their dozens of football awards.
We are like the EU. Everyone has to be treated the same and carry the same weight as everyone else so nobody's feelings get hurt. . . no matter how Bulgaria-sucky they are.
all get participation ribbons?
Nik Stauskas is the only Unanimous All-B1G First Team selection.
Marble, Petteway, Harris, and Kaminsky the other four. No real issues there.
Surprised Harris and Marble weren't unanimous. Congrats to Nik.
wow. Nik was the only unanimous pick. Was Trey a unanimous selection last year?
Either way it speaks volumes to his play and leadership.
yes, and I'm sure Olidipo and that ugly tall guy on Indiana were also unanimous.
because it seems like he answered the mid-season questions quite well, and is headed for the NBA. Great honor for him and a testament to his hard work, great coaching and great teammates.
Also Nik, all the off season training paid off. But let's go out there and get the better prize.
None of the above, BTN? They got that pretty much right. Had Payne been healty, he probably bumps Kaminsky.
So was the second team LeVert, craft, newbill, payne, fraizer?
I think those were the five they listed for the "snubs" twitter question
They had Ferrell and not Frazier.
SECOND TEAM
Yogi Ferrell, Indiana (12)
D.J. Newbill, Penn State (9)
Sam Dekker, Wisconsin (9)
Noah Vonleh, Indiana (7)
Aaron White, Iowa (7)
THIRD TEAM
Caris LeVert, Michigan (6)
Adreian Payne, Michigan State (6)
Tim Frazier, Penn State (4)
LaQuinton Ross, Ohio State (4)
Andre Hollins, Minnesota (3)

Those are actually BTN's predictions for All-B1G Second Team and Third Team. Not the actual lists. They just announced 2nd team and Caris was on both the coach's and media's list.
Coaches say Miles is Coach of the Year.
Miles and Beilein makes sense. Congrats to both.
Congratulations to Coach Miles. I still think this is more disrespect, particularly by the other coaches.
Frankly, I think the other coaches are having a hard time dealing with what Coach Beilein and staff are doing at Michigan.
I'd find it unsettling, too, if I were say, a wee little angry muppet or a pervy creep who needs a belt.
The quandary this year perhaps is that the probably both deserve it for different reasons, as was discussed in a thread this morning. I do think you have to give Tim Miles a lot of credit for doing more with less at Nebraska. This was a team that was picked to jealously guard the cellar in the Big Ten this year and they end up beating Wisconsin in their final game and earning a bye in the conference tournament and probably a shot in the big dance. That's a position no one thought they would be in, perhaps not even Nebraska. I do believe there is something to be said for blowing away expectations, and no one perhaps knows that better than our own coach, who has done it repeatedly at a few programs in his career.
I think I find it annoying that Beilein accomplished the same thing and was not rewarded - it's just nothing new for the other coaches to stick it to Michigan, and anyone who doesn't know that doesn't know their history.
"it's just nothing new for the other coaches to stick it to Michigan"
Is that why Stauskas was unanimously voted to the All-B1G team and player of the year by the coaches?
Tim Miles was absoutely deserving of this award and just because Beilein didn't win both doesn't mean there's some giant conspiracy against Michigan. Almost every coach talks about how much they respect Beilein before and sometime after the games.
The vote may very well have been 7-5 with Beliein himself voting for Tim Miles (as his interview would suggest).
You're fourth generation. You don't understand what is part of Michigan's history with the other Big Ten coaches? Really?
Beilein's interview may mean any number of things - it may mean that he's someone who on principle never votes for himself, for all we know.
Izzo has taken shot after shot at this program, and finally didn't have anything he could say this year, although, still, it was really all the injuries.
Stauskas won because he was the clear choice and it's different to snub a player versus snubbing a program. But Iowa collapsed down the stretch, Petteway tailed off, and MSU was a disaster at the end of the year. Stauskas went off at Illinois and clinched the conference and the POY award.
None of this has ever been meant as any disrespect to Coach Miles, who did a tremendous job and seems to have quite a future ahead of him.
I've just seen guys do what he did before, or at least do something similar (see JB, etc.).
I honestly do not know that I've seen anything like what Coach B and Co. accomplished before. And that's in 30 plus years of following the game. To win it was incredible, to win it going away, that's madenss.
to a 4th place finish--finishing 10-2--is pretty effing impressive. I'm quite sure the rest of the Big 10 doesn't believe Michigan gets screwed. You're starting to sound a bit 9-11 truther.
Think what you will. I believe that the Michigan attitude of being above the knife fighting is how we end up with crippling sanctions and get screwed out of going to that Rose Bowl, and, for example, the Buckeyes' willingness to lie, cheat, and steal and above all else, play the game is how they get busted in bkb and recruit the #1 class in the country and get busted in football and land a two-time MNC-winning coach.
There is absolutely no evidence to back any of these claims up.
Right. There is absolutely no evidence that Izzo is disturbed by what is going on in Ann Arbor. LOL.
And Crean has never shown any odd antagonism to the program (you wrecked the program).
Really? Because right in this article he said he'd vote for him.
http://www.mlive.com/spartans/index.ssf/2014/02/tom_izzo_endorses_john_…
And I'd still want to see his ballot.
Izzo has openly disdained this program on multiple occasions.
Caris will win POY next year - shoo in if Yogi doesnt stick around :) or maybe McGary. Petteway is the other guy, curious to see if he leaves or stays. We have a few candidates for next year. Amazing.
Caris comin'.
If he puts in the same kind of work this upcoming offseason, that is definitely possible.
Aaron Craft wins the Aaron Craft Memorial Big Ten DPOY Award.
Seems like thats one of those career achievement awards.
I guess he had a pretty good defensive season.
I still say he hasn't been as effective now that, you know, fouls are being called fouls.
I also think he was often a drag on that team overall - he really struggled on offense.
Craft's defense yesterday?? He is limited in all offensive skills, but his defense is the real deal. Period.
Nice plays down the stretch, although not without a little extra contact, as per Craft.
But there were a number of games where the new emphasis and a few untimely Craft fouls deepened a Buckeye funk.
you give new meaning to the word "homer". I like to think we are better than that.
All this better than that nonsense, it's just nonsense.
Craft was a great defensive player the last three years. I watched a good eight or nine Buckeye games this year, and Craft was really hurt by the new way the game is being called. That's my reasoned and evidence-based analysis. If you disagree, fine.
Werd.
Like I said above, I think for each of those three guys it's pretty uncomfortable what Coach B and Co. are getting done in Ann Arbor.
Stauskas won player of the year and Beilein split coach of the year with Miles orrrr did they not announce it yet?
EDIT: the time on the comments in this thread had me really confused.
Based on who they showed getting set for interviews, yes, but not officially yet.
I thought it started at 5 because the time on the thread and holy crap it confused me for a moment.
Meanwhile JB is awesome and super classy in saying Miles deserves coach of the year. Love our coach.
Beilein officially the media's coach of the year.
