Awesome Example Set by Soccer Fans

Submitted by TartanAlex on
Even by the lofty standards set by South American soccer fans, this display from San Lorenzo supporters is pretty damn groovy. It would be nice to think something similar could happen at the Big House. Except in AA, there'd probably be thousands of complaints from people who, on the whole, would rather wave their car keys...

That is awesome, I so wish the Big House could get like that... talk about intimidation... I went to a Boca Jr game (though I am a River fan) down there and it was amazing...

I've been to a Premier League (actually FA Cup) game in London, Arsenal v. Sunderland at Highbury in 1996 in case you were wondering. The passion exhibited by fans at matches there is unbelievable. It is like college football on steroids. It would be amazing to have some of that type of passion and support come into Michigan Stadium.

IT's a cultural thing. Many of us are that big of fans of M, but in our culture, getting that excited exposes you, and nobody wants to be the first. Too self conscious.

This song is why the Little Brown Jug (which is neither little, nor brown) has its name: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Little_Brown_Jug_(song) It is about drinking and is relevant to Michigan football history. Winner for me. (I mean, it's written by Joseph Winner, so it's absolutely a Winner.) The popularized cartoon (kid?) version, with similar lyrics, but the melodies are the same. Song starts at 4 min: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-WreppviXAw

In soccer they sing during the run of play. In football, this isn't going to happen because there is a result for fans to react to on every play. (Please do not interpret this as me saying that soccer is boring. I love soccer. I'm just showing why singing will not work in football.)

That's a fair point, however I would have to say that it is the least of the reasons this would never happen in the Big House. The one thing I hate about going to games is TV timeouts. There's a solid 2-3 minutes without action. How cool would it be for the broadcast to come back from the long commercial break between the 3rd and 4th quarter to 100k+ doing something of this sort? Alas it would never happen, although even getting the student section to do something that organized would be a pretty awesome spectacle.

I've been down to BsAs a couple of times and been to a few games. It's not comparable to anything here. 100% pure Argentine awesome. I was hoping the video would include an unfurling of the mind-bogglingly large flags/banners that most of the clubs' socios sport. (Boca's are insane: See here.) To be fair though, the passion cuts both ways. When I was there last April, SanLo was struggling pretty bad and their fans showed up at the airport upon their return from a Copa Libertadores loss in Mexico and yelled and threw shit at them in the airport.

This is all crazy but if you want SUPER crazy, nothing matches a River versus Boca game in La Bombonera. I've been to games at River and games at Boca but never this superclassico. One day before I die.

in my area was some great jumping around, the likes of which made me reminisce of the great past Michigan stadium experiences. We just can't sustain it for very long :(
