Avatar Malfunction

Submitted by ChuckWood on

I know this has been covered in the past and I apologize in advance but is anyone still having issues uploading an avatar?  I've been trying randomly over the past week and have yet to succeed.

Any help is much apprciated.  This is the error message I keep receiving...

  • The selected file /tmp/J9sbst1319000886_3.jpg could not be uploaded, because the destination sites/mgoblog.com/files/pictures/picture-24740.jpg is not properly configured.
  • Failed to upload the picture image; the pictures directory doesn't exist or is not writable.

It's been down for months and months.  I get the same error message.

If you're desperate to post, you can upload the photo to a free hosting site and put it in your sig line.  I use Flickr.  Yes, you can put larger pictures in but people get bent out of shape over pictures much bigger than a postage stamp.

Thank you.  I knew it has been down in the past but saw fairly new users with avatars.  Thought they got it back up and running.   I'll go with the sig line.  I have a gem.

It's in reference to the part of the error that says "the pictures directory doesn't exist or is not writable" - it would make the pictures directory writable on a *nix system.

Edit: This isn't something you could do, it's something the system admin could do on the server, assuming this was actually the problem

I've had some other problems around here too, like trying to access my recent posts it sends me to an error page, trying to scroll through recent diaries it brings up a list of the past few months then when you click a month it just shows all the main page articles for that month.
