I can't imagine going through what he's gone through. I can't wish enough good things upon this young man.

I've been a Soldier for about 8 years now. And I've seen those eyes. Eyes that have seen death are not easily mistaken. What a ton of bad luck to deal with so young. You just hope he's able to move on and live a productive life. Anything else is just gravy.

But at the Bres?

I could be wrong, but I think one of his best friends is a RS Frosh on the MSU team, so I think he was just visiting him; I mean this MSU guy apparently spent quite a lot of time with Austin right after the crash so I think he's just getting out of the hospital and watching his friend play

He is best friends with MSU redshirt freshman guard Russell Byrd.
I don't make a habit of trolling spartannation.com, but stumbled upon this, via the Michigan Rivals site:

seeing that photo. I'm sure he will be craving a little anonymity at times. Hope the photog wasn't too invasive.

I can't help but think "poor s.o.b." .... and I mean that in the nicest way possible. Life kicked this kid square in the nuts.

That kid has more courage than I could ever imagine. I would probably have given up if I were in his shoes. Good luck Austin, you're a heck of a fighter.

Does anyone know if he will be able to play basketball again? I have missed out on a lot of updates since the last time I heard something he was release from the hospital. But it is nice to see him up and about and I hope he is getting all the emotional support he needs right now.

Austin appears to be doing way better than I had imagined. I hope that this is as great as it looks. Best of luck, Austin.

inspiring thing to see after all he's gone through
November 5th, 2011 at 12:11 PM ^
Wow -- I was prepared for much worse than that. Understandably, there wasn't much detailed information on his recovery, so the range of possibilities was great.

Can't wait to see him get on the court again.
