Austin Hatch moving to LA

Submitted by UM Fan in Nashville on

Looks like this got lost in the midst of Fall Camp starting and all, but Austin Hatch is moving from Fort Wayne to LA to finish his high school career.   Hopefully this will help his rehabbing and will get him into game shape in time for his Michigan Career to start.

Best of luck to Austin, he's been through more than most.

Who's "them"?

Canterbury, the high school he's leaving, never gave him clearance to return to 5-on-5, full-court basketball (but he was cleared for everything else). About a month ago, Hatch tweeted "Gonna get cleared [to] play soon," so I wouldn't rule out the possibility that he'll be able to play at his new school in California. I have no inside info, but from everything I've seen he seems determined to return to the court.

It's actually down there in mgo.licio.us, 2nd item: a link to an LA Times article.  He looks great in their picture.  Let's see if MLive has anything to add.

I don't really have high hopes that he'll ever get back into "game shape," but I can't wait for when this kid steps on campus as the most heralded recruit in Michigan sports history. I don't believe in miracles, but this young man defies all odds. He has walked through hell not once, but twice, yet he still holds his head up and doesn't feel sorry for himself. I could only wish for the ability display a fraction of the emotional and physical strength this kid has. He is already a Michigan legend, and him actually making it on the court when he does get here would just being icing on the cake.

...it is an all boys catholic school known for their sports programs. Their basketball team is consistently one of the best Southern California teams, they produce a lot of D1 prospects (most notable was Toby Bailey from UCLA's last nat. championship team), and play in one of the top basketball leagues in the area. Even barring his accident, it would be hard for him to be a starter on this team....that being said...never bet against Hatch and if he plays well on this team, which plays top california and national teams every year...that would be an excellent sign for Michigan and Hatch!

I've been pushing for a spot on this side of the hill, but the only two "Michigan" bars are in Santa Monica and Hermosa. I've been talking with David Golbahar (look him up on book face if you want help out) about setting something up in the valley, and we could swing it as long as there's interest.

My buddy is his cousin and told me he will most likely never play college ball and that michigan isn't expecting him to ever play. He said he's just not the same and probably never will be, but you never know...also, not to say too much, but the move has everything to do with family and nothing to do with basketball
