Austin Hatch article on ESPN.com

Submitted by mgobluth on

Today must be Autsin Hatch day at ESPN (I''m not opposed to making this a national holiday).

At 6PM on ESPNU, the full version of the SC Featured story on Hatch will be aired. But if you want a Hatch fix right now, I highly suggest you read Dana O'Neil's piece on Hatch.

I love this kid's story and am so proud he represents our university the way he does. A true inspiration to us all.

Nor read of such a tragic story becoming as inspirational as this one.  The loss of his father, mother, brother, sister and step-mother in two plane crashes.  Not able to walk or talk for a lengthy time period.

And now moving on in this world in a manner that was never contemplated by anyone....... except him.

I hope to follow his career in whatever field it may be.

Edit:  Is it 6:00 or 6:30 tonight on ESPNU?

I printed out and posted on the wall of my office a quote from John Beilein that Austin Hatch conveyed in one of his previous interviews:

"The worst thing you can do is set your goals too low and achieve them."

It seems Hatch has taken this to heart, and that he and Beilein have a truly special relationship.

Actually, failing to hold back tears here while reading that at work. In a private setting I would be bawling. This kid is incredible and I hope for nothing but the absolute best for him. So happy he's a Michigan Wolverine and we're able to enjoy his journey.

It really is something what he had to go through. Kudos to the kid, it's unreal to even think about, let alone live it.
For any pilots here, it seems the cause of each crash was pilot error. Is that accurate? It doesn't change my feelings on anything, just trying to understand the terminology used.

Between the poor guy who was happily walking 21 miles a day to work and seeing this story (the long version especially) I will try to NEVER complain about my tough life!
