Aubrey Solomon - recruiting analysts vs. gut feel

Submitted by Blue in Paradise on

I am really hoping we get Solomon tomorrow and the sentiment amongst recruiting analysts is nearly unanimous in favor of Michigan.  However, my gut feeling (and probably the same for 90% of MGoBlog readers) is that he is going to choose Alabama.  Part of this is PTSD from a multitude of former recruiting battles.

Do most people agree with me?  Or do you have faith in the analysts?

On a related note, I don't think our NT / DT situation is as dire as many think if we don't get Solomon.  We have Mone and Hurst as the starters with Gary able to plug in at 3 tech in some packages.  We also have Dwumfour and Myers who both played minutes last year and can provide some depth.  We also have 3 freshman SDE types, one or two of whom can possibly move inside to 3 tech and eventually to NT if needed.

It's wouldn't be perfect, but not the end of the world either.

Based on everything that I have read, it seems that Solomon will commit to Michigan.  I won't panick if he doesn't, but I'm not going to ignore the information that is out there, indicating that he will likely commit to Michigan...out of some fear that he won't.

PTSD...over recruiting kids to college?  Please.

especially if we land Solomon. Solomon is a game changer. Paea can also likely play both inside spots. I'm very optimistic on Dwumfour. DIB and Hudson are athletic and destined to be huge. Jeter will be interesting to see how he adds weight. He reminds me of Mike Martin. Villain with the speed rush at DE. The whole D-line position group is going to fun to watch. Michigan is going be an opposing QBs nightmare.

Have you LOOKED at the number of comments in the current Solomon threads?  Well...HAVE YOU?

If the OP were to just add his thoughts to this important topic onto the end of one of those mega-threads there is little to no chance others would know HIS VERY VERY IMPORTANT THOUGHTS.  AND THOSE IMPORTANT THOUGHTS ARE HE DOESNT THINK WE'RE GOING TO GET SOLOMON.

Hence the thread.

Sam Webb, and usually if he feels this confident without a "gut feel", it's because he has been told by a very good source, and he doesn't want to take the kids thunder by announcing it's a done deal. Also that source isn't usually the kid, but a parent or trusted advisor. So we shall see, but I won't lose any sleep either way, no matter the outcome.

I believe Webb's source is the local Scout reporter. Find it hard to believe that Webb has a scoure inside Solomon's circle. And he always starts with "word from down south is ..." and not "a scouce close to Solomon ..." and then pretty much mirrors what the local Scout reporter thinks,

Now that could be either very important (the local guy has some real info) or not as important (opinion based on little direct information).

So in the case we don't really know how reliable the information is.

There will always be more let downs than fun moments because there are more offers and only limited spots plus a lot of competition. Harbaugh has done well to close classes and he has been well above average. Gut feel is strong for both guys tomorrow. Harbaugh closes well. Did it in 2015. Will do it again.

and care about recruiting, but have been burned too many times to put much interest into any specific recruit until after signing day. Just not worth following for me anymore. I still read most posts about it here, especially during the season, but I'm also just as happy learning the players after signing day when I don't run the risk of getting overly attached to and then disappointed by a kid who doesn't pick Michigan.

THAT BEING SAID - I trust Sam and hope Aubrey goes blue! If he doesn't, life goes on.

There are a lot of people in this fanbase who lack steel in their spine.  We had a top 5 class last year, will have a top 5 class this year, and people have PTSD over recruiting?

This may not end well for you here.

But honestly, if you choose to be hesitant to follow the Insiders and stay pessimistic for your own sanity, that's your prerogative. At least you're not calling those who actually listen to people who do actual research for a living bad things and such. I don't blame you for your "gut feeling." No matter what, we shouldn't be 100% confident in a 17 year old's decision unless you are that 17 year old. They're 17 year olds afterall.

Another ridiculous thread. We really don't need your paranoia, and it's certainly not worthy of a thread, given the amount of time and space that has been given to this recruitment, and the fact that you are offering zero new information. Please, just shut up and tune in tomorrow for the answer.
