Assuming Capital One Bowl

Submitted by winterblue75 on

Michigan is almost a lock for the Capital One Bowl, even if Nebraska loses to Wisconsin, as Nebraska went there last season. The opponent? Since Florida is in the top 4 of the BCS standings, the loser of the SEC Championship Game loses out on a BCS bid and will go to the Cap One. Alabama rematch anyone?

The aforementioned SEC teams other than Alabama will not be as tough as many think.  They might be good teams in this "overall down year", but they are nothing spectacular, what-so-ever.  A&M would, I admit, be a very tough draw, as they are playing on a level right now that could compete for a national title, but that we know won't be happeneing.  LSU, Florida, or Georgia in my humble opinion would be great matchups and very winnable.  If one wants to make the arguement that we don't stand a chance because our OC sucks, I could accept that.  With an overall healthy team and a team that plays the way they're capable of playing (not the effort but the scheme the coaches give, i.e. on the offensive side of the ball), they can hang with the SEC "big boys".

I honestly don't see it.  Yea they put up 37 on an overrated Florida St. team yesterday but they've also played some doosie's in a few of their other games.  I don't think the maojority of the SEC is all it's cracked up to be.  This is on quite a bit of viewership as well.  I'm not the biggest football expert but I'm not spitting conjecture based off of nothing.  I think those SEC teams (minus Bama and Texas A&M to some extent) are matchups Michigan can handle.

There's probably not a lot of people on the board who despise the SEC more than me. Down here I have to listen to it all the time. I'd like to think we could beat those teams you listed but I just don't. The reality is our offensive line, as a whole, is not good. Even though Florida has struggled against inferior teams (just like we have) their defense would have a field day on them. Our team just doesn't have the talent at key positions quite yet. The good news is that's quickly changing, and soon we'll be contending. Just my honest opinion.

Michigan is not a lock for capital one bowl... @CapitalOneBowl: If Nebraska wins the B1G, our choice is Northwestern or Michigan. If Wisconsin wins the B1G, the choice is Nebraska or Northwestern.

Michigan v. Georgia isn't a terrible matchup. It's about the only non-terrible matchup, but still. Hey, if we go to Tampa, maybe we could do this with our tickets next season

While our defense can scheme and execute well enough to keep us in the game (ie, hide our talent deficiency at CB and sporadic DT play), our OL will struggle against most SEC options. UGA's DL is huge with quality LBs. TAMU has a decent front 7, although not yet an SEC set of DL. UF's front 7 are extremely physical like ND and faster & aggressive with a better secondary to support. LSU's and Bama's front 7 are obviously top notch. SC has a very aggressive DL with quality LBs. I don't see a matchup our OL is likely to neutralize, let alone win. We'll have to win a battle of FGs, turnovers or big plays.

Johnny Football honestly scares me. The kid is amazing. Would love to take him on though. Maybe see Frank or Jibreel break though for a smack. Jake Ryan would be even more awesome. But I like the LSU matchup a lot. I'd love to see Les Miles postgame after a loss to the school he played for. That would end in a GIFs galore.

I meant to say in that particular scenario. Most likely scenario:

Rose: Nebraska vs PAC 12

Capital one: Michigan vs. Georgia/LSU

Outback: whiskey vs. S.Carolina/Georgia or LSU

Gator: NW vs S.Carolina

Only SEC opponent I feel comfortable playing is Auburn at this point.

TAMU - Manziel -Hurry Up Offense-D. Moore

Georgia - too much talent on both sides of the ball for us to hang

Bama - moar vincent smith I-form runs?

Florida - O Line is manhandling EVERYONE -top ranked defense

Wouldn't the cotton take aTm vs Texas, Oklahoma or kstate? Seems more logical and probable.

Georgia, LSU, Or South Carolina is most likely. Bama re-match no gonna happen. No one would watch it. If Bama loses, I bet they push us to either outback or gator to avoid that scenario.

Citrus is still most likely. Outback as fall back, gator if things get real weird like Nebraska and Bama losses.

that Borges is able to figure out how to properly use Denard and Devin before the bowl game.  So unless we hold our opponent under 20 I don't see how we avoid our 5th season of 5 or more losses in the last 8 seasons.

Wouldn't automatically assume a Nebraska loss would push them out of the citrus bowl. It doesn't exactly work like that.

If UW wins they go to rose. Nebraska most likely would go to outback but citrus still by contract can take them. They have first choice. Likely, no, probable, yes.

NW and us are candidates for pretty much all the Florida NYD bowl games. Citrus is most likely for us, but they have first choice and we may land in any of those games.
