Michigan is almost a lock for the Capital One Bowl, even if Nebraska loses to Wisconsin, as Nebraska went there last season. The opponent? Since Florida is in the top 4 of the BCS standings, the loser of the SEC Championship Game loses out on a BCS bid and will go to the Cap One. Alabama rematch anyone?
Assuming Capital One Bowl
You really think Alabama is going to lose to Georgia?
Aaron Murray is an efficient passer (top in the nation if I remember my "SC Now" blurbs correctly from tonight), if they can get the passing game going Georgia will be pretty tough to beat.
It will probably be Mich vs Georgia. Alabama will win and FL will still get a BCS bowl and we will face GA. Hopefu;;y we will beat an SEC team for the first time since 2008 ('07 season).
Georgia To Cotton? We get ATM?
Cotton has prefernce of Western division team while Cap One has preference of Eastern Division. So while Cotton could take Bama over TAM, they couldn't take UGA over TAM
Georgia went to the Capital One last season, so they're not likely to go again this year. For them it's probably BCS or Outback.
I think Georgia went to the Outback, right?
They played Sparty.
as either one, especially if O repeats second half performance from today.
I'm going. Don't ask me why but I'm going.
I'm just looking at the bowl game as a half day thing to do on a week long vacation. I'm driving down and staying in Orlando for a few days, maybe Sarasota for a few and hitting up Nashville on the way back.
Better than sitting home at 3-9. Fla bowl games are great!
None of the Florida bowls would want a rematch--they would send either Alabama or Michigan to the Outback instead. If Florida and Georgia both get BCS bowls, they'll pair Alabama with the B1G loser and we'll get A&M.
Every possible opponent we could play is absolutely terrifying.
I live in Athens, and have gone to a few Georgia games. If they lose to 'Bama and we play them, it will be a longgg day in Florida.
My husband has been hoping for this matchup for the recent past but as a lifelong Michigan fan and a double Georgia alum...I'm not holding my breath. I do think this is the most evenly matched they have been in the past few years though...
Thanks, but no thanks. I'm not gonna lie, I'm not real excited by the georgia idea either.
Between the NCAA making today's PSU team pay for last decade's pervert, and the Ohio State Scandal keeping them out of the mix, not to mention disappointing years from Wiscy and Sparty, the Big Ten's depth has been pretty much flushed down the crapper this year. Meanwhile, TAMU was much better than expected, and UGA and Florida had much better years than they had the right to expect at the beginning of the season.
All in all, it adds up to two extremely tough games for whoever represents the Big Ten in the Capitol One and Outback Bowls.
UF is going to Sugar Bowl, Alabama to the BCS NC game. I'm excited, more if we play Georgia vs Johnny Football.
Les Miles/Michigan storyline would be very attractive. From the football standpoint, I see a very low scoring game. LSU defense terrifies me.
Georgia or Texas A &M, does it really matter? we would get murdered by both of them...
Cheers to similar sentiments.
Is easily twice as physical as we are, and our linemen on both sides would be ground into a fine maize and blue dust.
What SEC team would be "good game"? Florida? Georgia? Texas A & M? LSU? We couldn't score against a middle of the road BigTen Defense today...
Seriously, who cares at this point. Some of you are actually wanting to see us play Alabama at this point?? That's not optimism, that's delusional.
Nice first post wally.
Thanks...needed to vent a little.
M vs Georgia - Capital One
M vs LSU - Outback
Not really sure that the winner of the SEC Champ Game will decide where UM goes. If Cap One wants UM they'll take them regardless of opponent.
If Bama is available, I think the Cap 1 would want them and would prefer not to have a Wk 1 rematch.
It could be Bama, Florida, Georgia, A&M, or LSU. We'll just load up and run Vincent Smith right at 'em to victory.
I like it!!! We'll run that damn dive play off-center until we get it right, by God!!! It shall be a glorious day to behold!!
You made me smile for the first time since half time yesterday.
Jesus Christ, not Bama again. I want to at least have a reasonable hope that we can pull out a win and send our seniors out the right way.
days/months b/w the last conference game and bowl games. It's like a start to a brand new season.
This is the first time I can remember being truly ambivalent about Michigan's bowl game. Just meh. This day was deflating and awful and I'm concerned that next season won't be any better. /debbie downer
Loser of the SEC champ game doesnt have to go to the Capitol One Bowl. Plus Michigan isnt a lock cause they usually find the best matchups and place the teams according in the Capitol One and Outback. Im hoping for a matchup with LSU!
Can anyone name a signature win this season? Was NU the only win against a ranked team? Mediocre season will be topped off by being blown out by TAM
They're taking advantage of playing in the weaker half of the SEC (again) and their signature win is against Florida in a game which featured some of the worst quarterback play (on both sides) of the last thirty years. There is no way they stay with Alabama for a half, let alone beat them for a chance to play for the national championship. Plus Mark Richt is the worst gameday coach this side of Lloyd Carr.
Having said that, the way Michigan played today doesn't inspire confidence. It doesn't matter who you play if you can't be more imaginative with the playcalling and you're turning the ball over 4-5 times a game.
Weaker half of the SEC? The entire BIG is pathetic. That being said 8 wins is pathetic given how bad the conf is.
We went 6-2 in conference play. Lost to a 10-2 Nebraska team in Lincoln after Denard went down and Bellomy played like a deer in the headlights. Went into the Cess Pit against an 11-0 Ohio squad without our premiere rusher (no he wasn't having a great season but still...) and lose 26-21...
Explain to me how that is "pathetic." Pathetic is 6-18 in conference play over three years, 0-6 vs MSU and Ohio. Yes, this season is a disappointment, and it's good that we expect better. But it's not pathetic.
Yes, Wisconsin, Iowa, Purdue, Illinois, etc. had a crappy OOC slate. But we didn't lose to any of those teams.
Not a popular sentiment this morning but I agree with you. I'm not ready to call a bowl with an SEC team an impending disaster, and that includes Georgia.
Considering how bad the conference has been this year. This is a massive disappointment considering the returning talent Michigan possess
I would prefer an Lsu draw as well over Georgia or bama. More fun to watch and if we lost at least it would be to a Michigan man
Prediction: Me going out New Year's Eve getting blacked out drunk. Waking up just in time for the bowl game hoping for the best with a couple fifths of Jack just in case I need it.
The aforementioned SEC teams other than Alabama will not be as tough as many think. They might be good teams in this "overall down year", but they are nothing spectacular, what-so-ever. A&M would, I admit, be a very tough draw, as they are playing on a level right now that could compete for a national title, but that we know won't be happeneing. LSU, Florida, or Georgia in my humble opinion would be great matchups and very winnable. If one wants to make the arguement that we don't stand a chance because our OC sucks, I could accept that. With an overall healthy team and a team that plays the way they're capable of playing (not the effort but the scheme the coaches give, i.e. on the offensive side of the ball), they can hang with the SEC "big boys".
Florida would pound us silly right now.
I honestly don't see it. Yea they put up 37 on an overrated Florida St. team yesterday but they've also played some doosie's in a few of their other games. I don't think the maojority of the SEC is all it's cracked up to be. This is on quite a bit of viewership as well. I'm not the biggest football expert but I'm not spitting conjecture based off of nothing. I think those SEC teams (minus Bama and Texas A&M to some extent) are matchups Michigan can handle.
There's probably not a lot of people on the board who despise the SEC more than me. Down here I have to listen to it all the time. I'd like to think we could beat those teams you listed but I just don't. The reality is our offensive line, as a whole, is not good. Even though Florida has struggled against inferior teams (just like we have) their defense would have a field day on them. Our team just doesn't have the talent at key positions quite yet. The good news is that's quickly changing, and soon we'll be contending. Just my honest opinion.
It's only fitting that we'll draw a tougher opponent than we would have gotten had we made the rose bowl.
I'm honeymooning in Orlando so that we can go witness our first bowl game. We switched from CA to FL after the Nebraska loss...
And a super supportive spouse.
Michigan is not a lock for capital one bowl...
@CapitalOneBowl: If Nebraska wins the B1G, our choice is Northwestern or Michigan. If Wisconsin wins the B1G, the choice is Nebraska or Northwestern.
Is chosen for the cap one bowl over Michigan. Michigan=$$$
Is there any way we can play Kentucky?
when they've put together a Top-10 season.
So we've got that goin' for us.
I think there's a possibility that the B1G just gets killed during the bowl season:
That's a pretty good BCS line-up. And if true the Cotton Bowl just had an orgasm.
Michigan v. Georgia isn't a terrible matchup. It's about the only non-terrible matchup, but still. Hey, if we go to Tampa, maybe we could do this with our tickets next season
While our defense can scheme and execute well enough to keep us in the game (ie, hide our talent deficiency at CB and sporadic DT play), our OL will struggle against most SEC options.
UGA's DL is huge with quality LBs. TAMU has a decent front 7, although not yet an SEC set of DL. UF's front 7 are extremely physical like ND and faster & aggressive with a better secondary to support. LSU's and Bama's front 7 are obviously top notch. SC has a very aggressive DL with quality LBs.
I don't see a matchup our OL is likely to neutralize, let alone win. We'll have to win a battle of FGs, turnovers or big plays.
If it is Georgia they are going to be severely lacking in motivation after losing out on a chance at the title game.
The year they played MSU.
Georgia did lose to MSU in a bowl game last year. They also almost lost to Kentucky this year. Yes Alabama did smash MSU that year, but another Alabama team also got smashed by a Utah team a few years ago in a BCS bowl.
Johnny Football honestly scares me. The kid is amazing. Would love to take him on though. Maybe see Frank or Jibreel break though for a smack. Jake Ryan would be even more awesome. But I like the LSU matchup a lot. I'd love to see Les Miles postgame after a loss to the school he played for. That would end in a GIFs galore.
If Wisconsin beats Nebraska:
Wisconsin to Rose Bowl
Nebraska to Capital One
Michigan to Outback
That's seems most plausible.
UW vs Stanford or ucla
Nebraska vs Georgia or Bama
Michigan vs LSU or S. Carolina
I meant to say in that particular scenario. Most likely scenario:
Rose: Nebraska vs PAC 12
Capital one: Michigan vs. Georgia/LSU
Outback: whiskey vs. S.Carolina/Georgia or LSU
Gator: NW vs S.Carolina
Any chance Capital One takes them over us?
Only SEC opponent I feel comfortable playing is Auburn at this point.
TAMU - Manziel -Hurry Up Offense-D. Moore
Georgia - too much talent on both sides of the ball for us to hang
Bama - moar vincent smith I-form runs?
Florida - O Line is manhandling EVERYONE -top ranked defense
Wouldn't the cotton take aTm vs Texas, Oklahoma or kstate? Seems more logical and probable.
Georgia, LSU, Or South Carolina is most likely. Bama re-match no gonna happen. No one would watch it. If Bama loses, I bet they push us to either outback or gator to avoid that scenario.
Citrus is still most likely. Outback as fall back, gator if things get real weird like Nebraska and Bama losses.
matter. I want to see Michigan play a decent opponent. If they lose they lose. I want to see UGA in particular. I have always fancied their helmets.
Bowls hate rematches so I really doubt Bama is an option
that Borges is able to figure out how to properly use Denard and Devin before the bowl game. So unless we hold our opponent under 20 I don't see how we avoid our 5th season of 5 or more losses in the last 8 seasons.
Wouldn't automatically assume a Nebraska loss would push them out of the citrus bowl. It doesn't exactly work like that.
If UW wins they go to rose. Nebraska most likely would go to outback but citrus still by contract can take them. They have first choice. Likely, no, probable, yes.
NW and us are candidates for pretty much all the Florida NYD bowl games. Citrus is most likely for us, but they have first choice and we may land in any of those games.
And not that this follows the thread, but UW is "on" pace for a 7-7 season. Wholly hellz angels in a bubble bath full of salts!!
