I haven't read and can't right now, but if the thread title is accurately descriptive, that article sounds incredibly specific and precise. Will they do a follow-up next week called, "Gap Strategies in UM's 4-2-5 Defensive During Thursday Night Rivalry Games in Odd-Numbered Years"?

Yep, pretty much that specific.  But it's a play we ran pretty frequently against NU and will almost certainly run against MSU in 3rd and long.

Cliff's notes: walk the dimeback up to the line, blitz him and the linebacker to overload one side, and drop the Buck (Jenkins-Stone) into a short zone in the middle.  Everyone else plays man coverage with a single safety over the top.  Chaos ensues.

Omg! You guys! I'm really worried that Offensive Genius Jim Bollman will see the tape and scheme a great counter to this! Their offensive line is so good, oh noes! *cackles with knowing glee*

1. The player who engages and peels is called The Rat.

2.  It's Saban's favorite defense.

Nick Saban, “Man free, rat in the hole is the best coverage involved, absolutely the best coverage involved. They can’t run the ball, the quarterback has to throw the ball outside, and he can’t make any easy throws like when you play zone.”
