Article on the Crisler Center from Michigan Today

Interesting article on the history of the arena in the latest Michigan Today. Apparently, our athletic department had been too embarrassed to even show Yost Field House to basketball recruits, so it was time in the '60s to relocate the basketball program.

“I kept seeing this hesitation,” [Cazzie] Russell said at the 2013 rededication ceremony of Crisler Center, according to The Wolverine. “Don Canham [the track coach who would soon become athletic director] is searching in his pocket, and all of a sudden he tells me he has either lost or left the keys somewhere . . . Instead, they took me to the Big House, to the luxury box, where we had lunch overlooking Ann Arbor. I figured everything was just like that. You can imagine what I felt when I came back in the fall, and I finally saw Yost: bats flying in the rafters.”

A lot of people don't know how neglected Basketball was. Crisler did not seem to care very much about it as the AD. Funny how his name is on the building.

Kind of foolish for the greatest program in the world to not be able to realize how great of a school it can be when you are dominating the two main sports. Look how many fans you gained in the 90's alone. That's called revenue and revenue builds your program even more. Everyone should be striving for the successes of both and not competing against eachother. Competition doesn't prevail here. What do I know though!

Bo said that his assistants were complaining about how bad the locker rooms were when he was hired. Sounds like not a lot of cash spent on infrastructure.
