Art Deco Michigan Wallpaper
I know this should be a diary, but I don't want to create another diary for a new wallpaper. I'll eventually consolidate all the wallpapers into a big diary post so I'm not taking up a bunch of space, but right now I'm exhausted (got on a creative binge and couldn't stop), so I'll do that later. In the meantime, enjoy the latest fruits of my labor. I'm extremely proud of this work (all done in illustrator/photoshop - except the UM logo). I love the art deco feel and so I decided to do a cool "Metropolis"-looking wallpaper for Michigan Stadium. Let me know what you think. Constructive criticism is welcome - I know this style isn't everyone's cup of tea. Enjoy!

Awesome, you keep making me change my wallpaper! But I like this because I have the DG one on my phone and desktop so now I can switch it up.
Thanks man
I grew up in the 60's exposed to and around a lot of Art Deco stuff. So it brings back memories.
and unique. Really like it.
I'm continually amazed.
Thanks!
This is now on the laptop on which I happen to be working. Actually, it is a laptop that often gets used in presentations here, and one that - if the signout for it is correct - will be used this afternoon by the resident Spartan in the building, so I might very well leave it for trolling purposes. I will also put it in my own rotation on my personal machine. Awesome work!

But that is fantastic. What is the font that you used to create this wallpaper?
Also, did you think about going with a three-line motif rather than the four-line motif, to better echo the three stripes on the helmet? It may be that it appeared too bare (or it may just be a bad suggestion), but I'm wondering if that was on your radar as you designed this.

The font used is Grenadier NF.
Honestly, I didn't even think about the three or four stripe motif. I might go back and make it three, slightly thicker lines instead of four. Good suggestion.
I'd wanted to do an Art Deco piece for quite some time now and just hadn't taken the time to do so. This one was time-consuming (relative to most my wallpapers), taking me all of two-plus hours to get it where I wanted it. It's a fun style to work in, but it takes longer for me since it's not my forte. When I think of Art Deco posters, I immediately think of the movie "Metropolis," so I used that as an inspiration.
Hope that gives you (and Oriental Andrew) some additional insight into my creative process (it's random).
I"m in my 20's and I love Art Deco. This is awesome.
I never thought I'd change my current wallpaper which is a picture of Mark Fidrych celebrating after a game with Jim Leyland in the crowd, but I think I have to.

"Is art deco supposed to be retro?" Let's break that down.
Is art deco (a design style that gained immense popularity in the 1920s and remained a dominant style until the mid 1940s) retro? I think it is. Yes, it most definitely is.

Awesome, thanks!
i'd rather have this as a poster than a desktop

Excellent work-Incredible actually. My only suggestion would be to change "This Is Michigan" to something more iconic and less recent to go with the art deco feel. GO BLUE or HAIL TO THE VICTORS works better for me as anyone using this wall paper knows what this is.

Art deco is a very cool style. I like it. Maybe without the stars though? I think they distract.

I like this better than the last one, actually. Very cool
Don't let DB get a glimpse of this though, looks like fireworks are being shot out of the stadium...or lasers.
That'll never happen (crossing fingers).

Fred Astaire and Ginger Rogers dancing through the pennants. No, make that Tom Harmon and Ginger Rogers dancing through the pennants.
