Armed Forces Bowl Open Thread

Submitted by M-Wolverine on

OK, I'm sure there's a lot to talk about leading up to the game between BYU and Tulsa in the Bell Helicopter (a Textron Company) Armed Force Bowl, so we might as well get an early start on breaking down the X's and O's of this one.

OK, there might be a little satire here, with some, ahem, recent open thread posts, but really, after staying up to watch the Alamo Bowl, if you're not at work anyway, is anybody going to be up before this one kicks off? (Now watch, this will cause some huge breaking news in Michigan Football that gets this bumped off the front page by noon).

I do encourage everyone to check out their website:

The multiple videos showing you that this is "not just a bowl game" would be enough, but what other 3rd rate bowl has pop up Lt. Dan, I ask you? Not just  a bowl, not just a website.  And a great start to a long line of games tomorr..uh, today.  All of which combined will probably still not outscore the Alamo Bowl.

Is the Beaver going to get any playing time?

EDIT:  I guess he already left Tulsa to go play even closer to home at MSU (MIdwestern State University)

After staying up for the 14,000 yards of offense that was the Alamo Bowl, watching #24 (Tulsa) and #41 (BYU) in total offense in the regular season will seem like a far more balanced matchup than #2 (Baylor) and #57 (Washington), even if those teams made it look like #1 playing #2 when it came to total offense.

Of course, BYU is #16 in total defense, and Tulsa is #89, so there may be SOME cap on the scoring here. BYU actually has a line that can bring SOME pressure and a secondary that occasionally  can KNOCK DOWN a pass or two...at least in comparison to the "defenses" of Baylor and Washington (good lord!). I say that, of course, realizing  that their 9 wins didn't really come against any team of note, so that #16 might be undeserved in a sense.

It's amusing as well that having the 89th best defense in the FBS translates to a 7-1 in-conference record for Tulsa. Welcome to the C-USA, right?

I took BYU in the pool though.

Though when I scroll down, the page moves, but Lt. Dan stays at the bottom of the screen, which I thought was cool.

<br>Kidding aside, "Lt. Dan" does a great job sincerely honoring a group that truly deserves it, the men and women of our Armed Forces.

I want to take a moment to thank our Military Veterans for everything they do and have done.  As a Vet myself, it is always nice to hear thanks.

14-10 is actually a sane halftime score in comparison to last night.

Liked that lunge to get the ball into the end zone - at least someone had to fight for a TD in a game somewhere.

Touchdown Tulsa, 21-17. This game is strangely not mockable. It's not the best matchup, but with only three total turnovers and a somewhat normal score, this isn't too bad.

And while watching the Kraft Fight Hunger Bowl, remember this easy recipe for a delicious dish:

1  Package Kraft Macaroni and Cheese

1 Can of Tuna

1 Can of Peas (Or you can do the Peas and Carrots Mix)

Make the Macaroni and Cheese normally and then add the other two ingredients.
