Arizona v. BC: Advocare 100 Bowl

Submitted by newtopos on

Didn't see a thread on this.  Arizona up 21-6 at half.  Pretty impressive to see what Arizona is doing with a QB that didn't receive a single scholarship offer at any level in high school.

Also, Ken Griffey, Jr. (whose son plays for Arizona) has a very nice Nikon set-up on the sidelines.

Hoke had his only good season with all RR recruits and had plummeted since then. Remind me of the last time Michigan looked up for a game and won it? And RR had Carr to stab him in the back like a "true Michigan Man" by advocating for players to leave. And leaving the cupboards empty? Hoke was lucky to have Denard or he'd already be high tailing it back to the MWC where he belongs.

For some, "vindication" must mean a national championship.

I think of "vindication" in terms of his proving that he is not a bad coach; that he should never be judged as a 3-8 coach; and the publication of a book that more or less documented how horribly he was treated in his last job.

I have a very hard time knowing what to wish for; that Rodriguez is so successful at Arizona that he remains there (with successively more lucrative contract extensions) for the rest of his career, or that his success brings offers at better football schools that he cannot possibly refuse, and we see him again at an elite football power school.

RR runs a fun offense to watch- I love seeing his teams play, its fast, anything is possible, and its exciting. Football shoud be fun to watch. I don't find Hoke's team entertaining at all, he loses in a boring, frustrating way. I can take a loss or two if it was fun. I am starting to think maybe RR was right when he said UM was on the verge of exponential growth in his last season here.

then why did you decide to post (repeatedly) on a thread that you knew was certain to be pro-RichRod?  You can't possibly presume you will be changing minds?

There can only be two reasons:  (1) you hate RichRod and feel the need to tell us ad nauseam--believe me something we know all too well, or (2) you get pleasure from raining on a parade, er, trolling.

Truly these are moments when silence would be the better course of valor.

and alot of you people are revisionist idiots, sadomasochists, or both.

the worst development of the year has been the constant comparisons between michigan and RR.  this place was 95% more pro-rr than anything else on the internet, and the only one upset over the firising was His Dudeness, or whatever ... everyone else saw it coming - even brian.

by the way, he was fired because he had the worst defense in the history of michigan football, was blown out by rivals, and let wisconsin run the ball 40 straight times.  (seriously, does anyone remember that wisconsin game or are you all living in bizarro-world, where rr was a successful coach at michigan but somehow got ran out of town...?)

he is doing mediocre at arizona, but so what? he failed at michigan, for almost all reasons that were his fault; whatever he does at arizona will not affect that fact one way or the other.

You know how many times AZ has won more than 8 games in the last 20 seasons? Exactly once, when they went 12-1 back in 1998.

Which means for Arizona, he's doing pretty well in his first two seasons, and for them, it's far better than "mediocre."

I agree with what ur saying the guy needed to go but wht I don't understand is how can he win more games in 2 years at Arizona than he did in 3 years at Michigan with less talent, a stronger conference, and the same coaching staff!!?? It fuckn pisses me off!! The defensive staff is exactly the same with the exception of GERG. He's running a better offense than Michigan ever did under Brady hoke or even Lloyd Carr and yet he's doing it with walk ons??? Someone plz explain this to me??!

Greg Robinson leaves and Greg Mattison arrives.

If RR had Mattison—or Casteel—when he was at Michigan, my guess is that he's still coaching here. But he made the singularly disastrous choice of bringing GERG onboard, and he was a dead man walking defensively from then on.

Water under the bridge for me. I think AZ is a better place for RR than Michigan, if for no other reason he doesn't have labor under 125 years worth of high-falutin' tradition and all the expectations that went with it.

He didn't make the choice, the idiots in the AD wouldn't spend the $ necessary to field a competitive football team at Michigan for God's sake! I'd rather cut every other sport save basketball and field a competitive football team, yet the AD seems content with .500 seasons and good non-revenue sports.

You Fail to mention that for the lack of a measly 5 grand & a contract offer, RR could have brought his Def Coord. with him. Compare that to the salaries & other arrangements for the current staff. Hoke has been given the Red Carpet treatment while his predecessor had one roadblock after another strewn in his path. Bah Humbug to you Sir !

Brandon is just an ex-Bain guy who never ran anything until he was planted as CEO in one of their acquisitions.  At Domino's, he was the guy who poured ketchup on cardboard and called it pizza.

He's a bum.  Guys I knew said he always was a self-promoting bum.

Now we're stuck with Hoke until Brandon decides whether he wants to try to be governor of the state.

After the "success" he's had at Michigan, maybe he should just shoot for Mayor of Detroit. Though I'm not sure how well blasting Seven Nation Army 72x per day would go over with the residents.

I read through this and see people bashing RR for going 8-5 with Arizona. Some of the same people I see supporting Hoke for going 7-6 at Michigan.

He's better than that.  Hoke is a competent coach who can recruit and should be more successful going forward.  He may even be an "elite" coach in the way that guys who can take advantage of lots of strengths can be elite.  I'm fine with that.  I also don't think RR was some savior who was going to win multiple MNCs at UM.  But the bitching around here that RR was a no-talent hack flies in the face of all evidence, and that's always been my issue with that line of thought.  A guy doesn't win 100+ games by dumb luck.

I love the Rich Rod offense.  When it's humming it really is a thing of beauty.  It's up tempo, exciting to watch, any play can go the distance, good run-pass balance, etc.  Now it appears they have a decent D as well.  I really like where Rich is taking the Arizona football program.
