Are you glad Michigan is opening on a Thursday?

Submitted by gpsimms not to… on

When Michigan announced it would be the first major football game of 2015 for its opener, and that that meant playing on a Thursday night, my initial reaction was: 'That's not Michigan. Dave Brandon creates the future, etc.'

As the game approached, I talked myself into thinking that even though Michigan football belongs on a Saturday afternoon, I would be pretty appreciative that the Michigan football season started two days early.

Now that it is here, I am realizing that I really, really dislike it. The 'favorite gameday traditions thread' made me realize that 95% of us cannot have the usual Saturday/gameday that we are used to. I'm at work, and have to pretend I am working for the next 9 hours, which is the worst possible way to spend the hours before kickoff.

I'm just curious what everyone else's opinions are.

YES. More happy that its at night though. Having a three year old and a one year old, I wish all of our games were at night, its difficult watching when all i hear is.

Kid: Daddy?......... Daddy?....... Daddy?.......... Daddy?......... Daddy?.......... Daddy .......?

Me: What.

Kid: Uhhhmmmmm........................Daddy?

Me: What.

Kid : Nothing...................Daddy?......................

I love them, but yay night games!

Saturdays are much more managable than Thursday nights. Especially with an 8:30 kickoff.

Despite that I'm glad to get the season opener out of the way.

have to agree with the once in a decade !    Much prefer to be at Michigan Stadium for the season opener.  I hate watching on TV ....  it can be very hard on my stuff (like body, walls, lamps and things ...).

So pumped to see the "Harbaughing" in action !!!

by playing tonight vs. waiting for Sat.  No way we would be the biggest game on Sat.  Also, Harbaugh gets additional time to make the inevitable changes/tweaks that occur between game 1 and game 2.  He also got to start camp early.  So, if it's OK with Harbaugh, then who am I to question this?

High profile national coverage of the Jim Harbaugh Era of Michigan Football & an extended period before the 2nd game of the season where significant improvement ensues gives the Wolverines a head start on the 2015 season.

Like others have said, I wasn't thrilled at first, but now I think its great for a season opener.  I wouldn't like it in the middle of the season potentially throwing off routine and whatnot, but hell, I love being able to look forward to it all day at work.

I like that we get to see the team sooner, but I think it is going to make Saturday sort of a bummer / letdown. Plus it lacks that familiarity of Saturday Tradition (TM) to mark the start of the season.

Ultimately how we all remember the Thursday start probably has more to do with the outcome of the game than anything else!

I don't like it but I just want it to be over. Going to the Lions preseason game as a distraction. Putting a tape in the VCR to record the game.

I hate it, I have to go to my sister in laws wedding in the middle of the game, because she thought a Thursday wedding would work since football is on Saturdays. I had planned to go to Salt lake city and stay with friends since that game was announced 4 years ago. still pissed about this....

I'm cool with it for this year. We're the prime game on college kickoff night. Great exposure.

(I know neither team is ranked but I have to imagine the general viewing population will find this game more compelling the UNC-USC or TCU murdering Minnesota)
