Archie Collins earned a promotion

Looks like that the Gholston and Fred Smith commits finally paid off for him. On the bright side, we may have a shot at Southeastern kids now. I forwarded this and the information that Will actually lived with Archie,to Rosendouche for his next investigation. Seems like a slight conflict of interest to me. Just sayin.

have taught dantonio well. Would be great to see this hit the MSM, but it won't. The freep would just find a way to spin this into a positive family values take for MSU

Nice find. IIRC, I don't remember Southeastern's head coach showing much disdain for Michigan. Too bad it cost us a shot Smith, Gholston, and Hankins, but hopefully it ends there.

So Collins sends 5* Will Gholston (who just happens to live with Collins) to MSU and 2 months later has a job working for Dantonio? What a coincidence.

Am i the only one noticing the irony here. The op put "earned" in quotes as if to indicate that Collins had not earned this job. I think landing 4 and 5 star players in EL is the definition of "earning" a promotion. Is he a douche? Yes. Should we be pissed that he swayed kids away? Yes Should we be pissed he seems to have poised kids against us? Yes but does that mean he didn't work his tail off to get hired? No. Hopefully his departure will signal a changing of the guard and lead to the talent from SE coming here to AA

I suppose anything is possible. I removed the quotes, but I guess I would tend to lean toward the fact that he hand delivered a H.S. All-American LB to them, but I do agree that this is a positive development in regards to recruiting that school regardless.

He wasn't the HC at SEastern was he? I thought he was DC or something like that. Lol. High school DC to a Big Ten job? That doesn't make much sense to me. I don't know how much say a HS DC would have in naming his replacement, but now he does have a familiarity with the SEastern coaching staff, which cant hurt MSU's recruiting any.

Prediction: Detroit Renaissance Coach receives job from Michigan State a month after signing day 2011. It's definitely going to feel good beating them this year.

Last year, there was a whole lot of whine coming out of east lansing about how Robert Bolden's dad was allegedly offered some sort of job with PSU. Now that this blatant case of quid pro quo funny business has come out, I'll be interested to hear the sparty justification.

I find it funny that he basically sent Gholston to State and then "just by coincidence gets a job two months later." What great family values they have over in East Lansing.

So you forwarded this to Rosenberg? Now we'll get this headline: Working Hard From the Ground Up, the Archie Collins Story. Then it will be a story about how nice guys don't always finish last...

Is there any major part of the UM AD still in place from when Watson was hired, though? Several Athletic Directors, three new basketball coaches, three new staffs. . .two new football coaches. . .I mean, I guess Red Berenson was still around, but this certainly isn't a recent thing. And, Michigan was slapped with sanctions for the Fisher era, as they should have been. Maybe it wasn't specifically for the Watson thing, but I don't think it was completely independent of that, either. And so I guess the issue is. . .MSU is unlikely to face sanctions for this. Not many people look back on the Fisher era and think, "man, I wish we could have Steve Fisher coaching U-M again, he certainly had his shit together." Perry Watson was a part of a very different U-M, whereas Archie Collins is part of the MSU that is right now, the MSU that is painted as a very clean and well-run program, as opposed to that hick running his program into the ground over in Ann Arbor.

Right, it's not like you clowns haven't made it a habit of following me around on here, leaving endless comments on my blog, etc. Sorry you feel I have "smug un-earned superiority." Maybe I should change my blog to a faux-communist theme just to be different and try to stand out. Hell, I could even have a chat room on there with a bunch of my buddies and feel cool by bashing MGoBlog readers all day!

endless? i think you have me confused for someone else, bro-ham. and for those keeping score, we have - accusations of obsession - thanks for playing and - clowns up next on the docket here on sports talk radio, wannabrian is gonna bring his take strong and jack a slingbox with his huge call of the day

i read this again and since i've elephant gunned quite a few of my brain cells away over the years i thought maybe i just forgot some of it. but it's so nuts - i can't seem to find any of these endless comments that i've left or any trace of this "following you around" that i'm accused of. it's odd. it's almost like you just make up conspiracies and agendas and misdeeds in your mind and then project them into the real world with no real proof and just kinda expect people to believe them because, hey, you're .... someone. but you'd never do something like that.

What are you talking about? Nobody from the WLA is following you around here or leaving endless comments on your blog. I left you an endless comment on your blog, in that it was lengthy......but you never published it. Maybe you're confusing that, and the WLA, for me. Its water under the bridge for me, but if you're going to accuse us of stalking you and leaving drive by commentary on your blog, it should be pointed out that a signed critique of specifically something you wrote, accompanied with compliments towards your work otherwise, you chose to censure. Snap out of it, OB. Dont make it sound like the WLA has made you a target. That's just another fantasy

Didn't you just compare him to Perry Watson? So, surely, you must think there's a little bit shifty about the high school coach of a highly-touted prospect jumping to the school said prospect committed to, two months later?

Mongoose

March 30th, 2010 at 9:41 PM ^

That's exactly my point, though. That's a Michigan from long ago. I have never known a Michigan that had a Perry Watson. That was the early 1990s. Hey, maybe Fielding Yost pushed a student out of his way at Michigan Stadium when he was AD, but that's not Michigan now, is it? I mean, I guess you can advocate apathy on the part of all parties involved, but, I don't know, I think there has to be a degree of transparency in college athletics. Just because Michigan has been found guilty of something bad at some point does not mean that we cannot ever blow the whistle on someone else. And you've admitted you find something shady about the situation; it seems as if you only want to hold your perceived neutrality over the heads of everyone else. But on the surface, this looks to be a pretty strange coincidence, and just because we're fans of a team that, under a different AD and a different basketball coach, hired a similar character, does not mean we have to just act as if there is nothing unusual about the situation.

i can get behind that reasoning but starting the topic off with "lololol coach d-bag" sub-idiocy and just straight up convicting msu of MISDEEDZ off the bat is a wee bit more overblown than pointing out a strange coincidence. again, when there's evidence - like, say, a flipped SUV leading to a federal investigation with a trial and shit or even just a letter from the NCAA - i'll get on board with MSU IS THE CHEATERZ a little more fervently. this is all based on message board paranoia. there's no real evidence of ANYTHING other than the hire.

dex, I've given The Other Brian my fair share of flak for his conspiracy theories and whatnot. But he had virtually nothing to do with this thread/article until you brought him into it, other than having discussed Archie Collins in a few blog posts from a couple months ago. And by the way, your "wannabe brian" and "cool beans dudes" comments put you on pretty much the same level as TOB's "thanks for playing" and "clowns" comments. I usually like your comments, but you're out of line this time.

Regardless of whether we paid attention or not, the pipeline from Southeastern to MSU is real. And unless that's a fake article, Archie Collins' new connection to MSU is real. So I don't see the problem.

people were most definitely talking about archie collins and Gholston's recruitment before the blog at genuinelysarcastic. Just because you don't know about it doesn't mean it doesn't exist. Not sure if you're just playing devil's advocate, or if you just have some personal vendetta against that guy, but the fact that collins is now at MSU confirms everyone's suspicions.
