APACHE!
Now I'm positive that the athletic department people are reading mgoblog. I know the stadium was half empty but those who stayed for the fourth were treated to Apache via the P.A. system and a good dance along by the student section (as requested by a few posters here during the multiple threads about the piped in music). Good reaction from the students. Who knows, maybe its our "Jump Around"?

I'm sorry, piping Apache is not a moment to celebrate in the annals of Michigan football history.
We're Michigan. We don't NEED a Jump Around. Especially not something so amazingly cliche as Apache.

I like the piped in music b/c I can HEAR it where I sit. Because they stash the band in the student section, only half the stadium can hear them. Awful silent in the other half so I'm glad they're doing something about it. Hopefully they'll eventually move the band somewhere in the stadium to make them capable of being heard by more (like maybe in one of the end zones so the music travels the length of the field).

Actually about 80% of the stadium can hear the band.
But, you're right, everyone can hear that gawd awful, artificially enhanced noise emanating from those "speakers".

I'm in section 28, in a lower row (aka right next to the band, about 20 seats away), and the band is hard to hear from where I am some of the time. It's absurd.

That's great that 80% can hear the band, but it's still pretty ridiculous to not be able to play music that the whole stadium can enjoy. It's either pipe in some decent songs not and then that get the crowd pumped pretty fast, or start giving up some of the precious sound quality the band won't give up that the vast majority of people won't notice anyways so that we can actually hear the band. I'm guessing we'll be sticking with the piped in music, and it seems like most people in the stadium aren't upset as they sing along with most songs.

I agree there's something serene about Michigan Stadium. "Jump Around" is part of what makes Camp Randall, Camp Randall. Im not against the piped in music, but Michigan football does not need to go the cliche route here. I'd prefer to hear "The Victors" played over and over and over and I don't think it could get old. But, you can't always have your cake and eat it too. No matter what, GO BLUE!

I dont think it takes away from any of the mystique of the program or stadium but it does seem to get the crowd and the players pumped up. I come to a few games every year and I have to say that when I came up for a game earlier in the season it was so much louder in the stadium and everybody seemed to feed off of the emotion and excitement the players were showing on the field which made the whole place a very hostile for the opposition.

I had the opportunity to sit in two different spots during the game today: One half in section 17 near the South endzone and one half in the student section near the band. Being my first game at Michigan this year I have to say that I was very disappointed in the band placement.
The sound quality is just poor. Even MSU has the right idea with putting their band in the endzone. I think if anything the band needs to move, then they might reach more people in the stadium and not sacrifice a ton of quality for loudness in terms of the actual composure of the band.

The problem in this case is that theactual stadium was modified when they redid the concrete so that the band could sit where they do. The tuba and drumline sections in particular are really awkward for anything else to be there. If there were a way to get into the seats it might work as handicapped seating?

They played Apache at a Michigan baseball game a couple years ago, and there were about 20 Maize Ragers doing a dance to it. Don't know where it started but that was cool.
I too think "canned music is the devil" for football, but IF we have to have it, let em play something we can call our own.

I did notice that we used piped-in music more sparingly this week. That was an improvement. It was massively overdone in September.

I noticed that as well. I think after the September debacle and the outcry that ensued, the AD decided to pick their moments. I don't like the piped in music, but I can live with if they continue to pick their moments. I hope they come up with a better or more original selection on music though.

I wish we would not use "Thunderstruck" and "Start Me Up"
Our games now start exactly like MSU has done for years.......I do not mind music, but let's find our own "Start: song, and do something other than "ThunderStruck" (Its a good song, but..)
I would suggest that we replace "Thunderstruck" with a little Three Chord Thunder of a local band playing "The Victors" on an electric Guitar.
I suggest The Ramones......"Hey O, Let's Go" "Hey O, Let's Go" to start the game
