AP Rankings - Week 2
Michigan moves up to #17.
Other Notables:
MSU - #10
Ohio State - #12
Notre Dame - #20
Wisconsin (#13), Nebraska (#16), and Arkansas! (#8!) fall out of the top 25.
MSU and Michigan will probably the only B1G teams in the coaches poll when it comes out later today.

Wow....the big 10 is just bad. How did this conference fall off so bad over the last couple years?
I think Sparty is the best team in the conference which doesn't say much because they clearly have their own problems they have to address.
ND might be a measuring stick for both instate programs this season. Will also be interesting to see how ND battles sparty without having to play us the week before.

Sad but true.
September 9th, 2012 at 1:01 PM ^
Why is that "sad"?
We have our issues, but so does basically every team in the country. We're just hypersensitive to our issues because we follow Michigan.
September 9th, 2012 at 1:06 PM ^
I meant that it is "sad" that the polls always seem to reward teams for blowout wins against inferior competition. I wasn't referring specifically to Michigan's situation.
September 9th, 2012 at 7:53 PM ^
our issues are an inability to run the ball with a RB and cant stop the run on defense. Those are BIG problems to have. Even if we win vs. Umass we should stay where we are until the Oline wakes up and the D line shows up
September 9th, 2012 at 8:02 PM ^
Okay. We're the only team in the country to return two 1,000-yard rushers, but obviously Toussaint's eight-carry performance yesterday tells us all we need to know. And defending against a triple-option team holds great predictive value for the rest of our schedule. Got it.
September 9th, 2012 at 1:26 PM ^
When we blowout out UMass we should move into the the top 15.
Tell it to the Indiana Hoosiers. They tried that (blowing out UMass 45-6 in their own building) and it didn't get them into the Top 25.
Our guaranteed, inevitable, easy win over UMass won't mean a thing.
September 9th, 2012 at 2:16 PM ^
Blowing up UMass when you are coming off 1-11 season won't put you in the top 25, but Blowing up UMass coming off an 11-2 season and you are already in the top 25, will move you up. Its kind of how the poll system works...
September 9th, 2012 at 3:13 PM ^
Um.....we're not......Indiana. In case you didn't notice, this is Michigan.
September 9th, 2012 at 3:32 PM ^
Fergodsakes.
September 9th, 2012 at 12:43 PM ^
For some reason it seems that a trend is developing that a loss is means a massive drop in the rankings. More so than prior seasons. Might be wrong, just my initial impression.
September 9th, 2012 at 12:44 PM ^
Arkansas was the biggest drop in history, from #8-unranked.
September 9th, 2012 at 12:47 PM ^
Unfortunately, *2nd biggest. See us in '07
September 9th, 2012 at 12:48 PM ^
Yikes... wrong board to make that mistake.. sorry! lol
September 9th, 2012 at 2:22 PM ^
If I recall correctly, the first two games of the 07 season were cancelled due to circumstances beyond any mortal mans control.
On sweet sweet denial!!!

September 9th, 2012 at 12:47 PM ^
Second biggest.... groan.....
September 9th, 2012 at 12:49 PM ^
That's what she said!
September 9th, 2012 at 12:45 PM ^
It's always been like that at this time of year. A loss generally means a drop of 10 or more spots, because the majority of the ranked teams are undefeated. Later in the season, the drops can become smaller.
September 9th, 2012 at 12:44 PM ^
UL Monroe got 23 votes... HAHA
September 9th, 2012 at 2:06 PM ^
If they beat Auburn you may see more.
September 9th, 2012 at 12:44 PM ^
That's not the latest coaches' poll. Arkansas being at #10 is clear indicator of that.
September 9th, 2012 at 12:44 PM ^
almost all the teams in college football are close with a few notable exceptions (bama, USC, LSU, etc.). Us being 17th makes sense....I still think we will be the B1G champ as long as Denard throws well.....
September 9th, 2012 at 12:57 PM ^
Hell, is USC even that good? They blew out Hawaii, which is standard and didn't look to be anything special against Syracuse.
I hate to say it, but we could be headed for LSU vs. Alabama IV: The Rematch of the Rematch of the Rematch.
September 9th, 2012 at 1:09 PM ^
That won't happen...
September 9th, 2012 at 4:34 PM ^
USA Today is doing their best to make it happen. so far two SEC teams have passed USC in two weeks even though they haven't lost. same thing happened last year when bama and lsu passed oklahoma while all three teams were undefeated.
September 9th, 2012 at 4:46 PM ^
Can't wait for "Game of the Century of the Year"
September 9th, 2012 at 5:09 PM ^
Thhe USA today wants it to happen b/c the SEC region is the only one that still gets their news via printed media.
September 9th, 2012 at 1:10 PM ^
It's difficult for me to envision any Pac-12 opponent defeating either USC or Oregon (except each other).
September 9th, 2012 at 3:29 PM ^
September 9th, 2012 at 5:30 PM ^
September 9th, 2012 at 7:51 PM ^
USC will win that shoot out for sure!
September 9th, 2012 at 12:45 PM ^
To the OP, that's not the right Coaches Poll. Unless Wisconsin, Arkansas, and Nebraska all managed to turn back time and stay 1-0
September 9th, 2012 at 12:47 PM ^
Gotcha, didn't look too close at it. Edited the OP
September 9th, 2012 at 12:47 PM ^
Polls don't matter.
The goal is to win the B1G Championship and beat ohio.
This Is MICHIGAN.
September 9th, 2012 at 12:54 PM ^
Take care of business and the Polls will take care of themselves. But the Polls keep us engaged and quench our thirst between Saturdays.
September 9th, 2012 at 12:47 PM ^
Michigan vs Sparty is for the B1G championship.
Leaders division not looking so hot.
September 9th, 2012 at 12:54 PM ^
Don't count out the Huskers just yet. They've got defensive issues to sort out, but their offense looks much improved, and I think Pelini will get the defense in gear as the year goes on. That roadtrip to Lincoln one week after MSU worries me.
September 9th, 2012 at 1:27 PM ^
it will be an exciting battle to the last man standing in the Legends. And I guess you could make a case for Purdue in the Leaders.
Any way you look at it, the division and B1G title are up for grabs.

September 9th, 2012 at 7:50 PM ^
Since from what I've seen thus far it's very likely that they will both blow your doors off when you all play.
September 9th, 2012 at 12:50 PM ^
Well, the rest of college football might as well just pack their bags and go home now. Notre Dame is 2-0 and on track to win another National Championship.
My blathering fool of a neighbor walked by me this morning with his little yapping rat dog said something to the effect of "2-0 feels good, see you in two weeks." I told him even Rich Rod could beat Notre Dame and I couldn't wait to see Notre Dame fans on the ledge in a few weeks time.

September 9th, 2012 at 12:59 PM ^
He said see you in two weeks and you unloaded on him? Was he 12 years old and trying to retrieve his lost baseball? Yeesh...
September 9th, 2012 at 1:06 PM ^
I believe the correct response with Notre Dame is always, "To Hell with Notre Dame"
September 9th, 2012 at 1:01 PM ^
until they run into the Michigan and MSU buzzsaw every year.
You think scheduling Bama was bad, how about scheduling Michigan and MSU back to back every year?
