checked the board before submiting another thread on this...

This makes the game next week a top 25 matchup.

As a Mizzou fan, I'm shocked we stayed in the top 10... really was expecting something like 14th or 15th... That top 5 is very strong. I wish we had the playoff this year.

Bama vs (Baylor or OSU)

and FSU vs Oregon

I would love to watch that

The polls weren't going to believe in Mizzou, because they weren't a pre-season contender, and hadn't played a really good team at full strength so far this year... Mizzou beat Florida and Georgia when UGA was missing their top 2 RBs and 4 of their top 5 WRs, and when Florida had no QB or offense... I just thought they'd be dropped more.

On the positive side, there is still a very good path to the SEC Champ game for Mizzou

Wow, if Alabama loses a game and the other top undefeated's don't, it's going to put the media types in a blender.

It's taken for granted that the SEC champ will play in the NC (sometimes you don't even have to be the champ).  It's going to be reeeeealy hard for them to follow their natural inclination and pimp an SEC team for the NC at the expense of the other teams, regardless of merit.

Oh, they'll try, but I don't see how they can do it.

An SEC team will play for the title, even if they have to put 2-loss Alabama in there (which could happen if they lose in a title game as well as against someone like LSU).  I'm more interested to see what happens if Oregon loses a game but can claim some nice scalps in the process.  If they win against Stanford then they'll have taken down Washington, Stanford, and UCLA along with Oregon St. (a fringe top-25 team), so even if they lose in the title game it would be hard to knock them out.  OSU needs UM to keep winning for that game to be of any value to them, and the minute they lose I expect them to plummet in the polls.  If you look at their schedule, they have probably played 2-3 decent teams in the past two years, and usually only won those games by a hair.

Gonna be quite the game this weekend. This is the point in the year where the good teams start separating themselves. Time to see if we can be one of them.

Yeah, every fanbase is negative after a loss, but I don't know what would give Neb fans a lot of confidence right now.  We can plausibly argue that our loss was self-inflicted due to conservative playcalling/missed FGs/defensive breakdown, but Nebraska was just plain beat straight-up by a middling (at best) Minny team.  And Northwestern is a disaster right now.

I think there is a subset of every fandom that relishes complaining about the current regime.  That definitely seems to have afflicted this fanbase after the PSU game.  But I think most people expect this team to be 9-3-ish going into the year, and looking at the schedule right now that seems reasonable, it a bit optimistic.  There were people acting like UM was going to lose every game after PSU and those people I just ignored because they are, frankly, either trolling for laments or idiots.

Something tells me you didn't watch either game.  UCLA played Oregon even-up (in score and in their play) in Eugene until the last few minutes of the 3rd quarter and then lost control and looked exhausted.  That's probably because the week before they played Stanford even-up until at least the 3rd quarter in Palo Alto.  If you think we would have hung in either of those games (@Oregon, @Stanford) like UCLA did, I'm not sure what that's based on.

I'd say Nebraska, on the road, is a decent win.  Certainly as impressive a win as anything LSU, USC, or TT have on their resumes.  I mean, LSU beat Florida in a rock fight yet people act like they are world-beaters.

It's a wonky ranking after those top 6-7 teams.  I'm actually a little surprised UM is even ranked, though I guess housing IU still resonates despite PSU absolutely getting pantsed on national TV.
