Anyone who can give a scouting report on Texas?

Submitted by Fuzzy Dunlop on

I know very little about Texas this year, and I imagine I'm not alone.  Anyone who's followed them enough to give a scouting report?  How do we match up with them?  I'm hopeful they're not the type of team that can take advantage of us inside.

Only teams of note Wofford played were 3 months ago when they were probably a different team to a degree.  Big loss to Minnesota and big loss to St Louis.   Georgia also wiped them out in game #1.  They are 13-2 in the last 15 but all in conf .  They lost twice to Davidson this year...

Total enrollment 2000.

Texas can be a dangerous team. They're pretty young and and struggle a bit shooting the basketball, but they are very aggressive on the offensive end of the court and do a decent job getting to the free throw line (they shot 45 FT against Kansas earlier this year). However, they aren't the best free throw shooters and are pretty bad from outside the arc. Ridley is also a LOAD down low and Isiah Taylor is one of best freshman you don't really hear much about.  Defensively, they're very inconsistent and can sometimes give up points in big bunches, but they do rebound the ball very well. If we are cold from the field (like today) then they could very well get the upset.

I am from Michigan and grew up a diehard Michigan fan. I currently attend the University of Texas and am an avid basketball fan. My scouting report is this: Texas has a shifty freshman point guard in Isaiah Taylor with the best floater in the game right now. Very Tony Parker esque. Can get in the lane with ease and is very shifty. Javan Felix is at the two. He is a dead eye shooter. Can also find his way into the lane. Demarcus Holland plays the three and will most likely guard Stauskas. Holland is only 6'4 so it shouldn't be too difficult for Stauskas to shoot over him. Johnathan Holmes will play the four. Most experience on the team (only junior on scholarship and no seniors). Robinson will have a tough time keeping up with him as he is bigger and can step out to hit the three. Down low is McDonald's All American sophomore Cam Ridley. He is 6'9 and a force at 285. It will be tough for Morgan and Horford to keep up with him I think. However, he has always had trouble staying out of foul trouble. Replacing him is a lanky shot blocker in Prince Ibeh. Also off the bench is Connor Lammert (similar to Holmes in he is bigger and can hit a three), Martez Walker (freshman from Pershing), Damarcus Croaker (who I haven't seen hit a shot since November), and Kendal Yancy (point guard who has really come on as of late). The way I see it, LeVert gets free a few times, Stauskas gets his shots, and Texas struggles down the stretch to get a cohesive offense going. Might be close in the beginning with Michigan struggling in the paint, but Blue's experience prevails in the end over an extremely young Texas team. But... Hook 'em horns ;)
