Anyone heard anything recently about Cameron Gordon?

Submitted by Sommy on
Seemed like I was reading quite a bit about him during 7-on-7s, but I haven't read anything recently. Anyone have any idea what's going on? It doesn't help that MGoBlue.com isn't really working well today.

For whatever it's worth, some of the "buzz" on the premium sites have him outperforming Stokes -- but that's not a negative against Stokes. Just that Cam has been impressive. Big kid with good hands. Both these guys have a lot to learn in a short time. So a lot of it is mental, how fast they pick it up.

What will get him in the game would be his size. It will be a huge plus to have deep threats like Stokes and Mathews on the field and Gordon as a big guy with hands who can block. My hope for Gordon is that he turns into a poor mans Hines Ward, just reliable at catching the ball and possibly helping a RB break it further down the field.

On one of the videos from mgoblue.com -- sorry don't remember which one, there are so many -- Cam runs a quick route, slips, but then pops up on his knees and makes a difficult catch with both hand over his head. This impressed me, especially after watching Stonum continue to drop easy passes. Yes he slipped, but Cam showed great balance, concentration and hands. Also Cam passes the "eye test," while Stokes seems a lot smaller than I thought.

I thought he was a little taller, like 6-2. The fall roster has him at 6-0 181. He just looked a little thin, but I'm sure he'll progress with Barwis. Also, I guess it was looking at him next to Cam (6-2 208), who is already big for a frosh.

But just in case you're not here are the WR's committed since RR, you'll note 7/13 are 6'1" or taller: Martavious Odoms 5-8 164 Jeremy Gallon 5-8 165 Tony Drake 5-9 170 Terrence Robinson 5-9 170 Drew Dileo 5-10 175 Roy Roundtree 6-0 154 Je'Ron Stokes 6-1 178 D.J. Williamson 6-1 172 Darryl Stonum 6-2 180 Cameron Gordon 6-2 211 Ricardo Miller 6-2 208 Jerald Robinson 6-2 175 Jeremy Jackson 6-3 194

more as a WR that signed to play during the RR era [edit: I should have made that more clear in my original post, I see what you're saying]. But to a certain extent RR had to re-recruit Stonum because of things like Urban Meyer telling lies.

however, your listing of the WRs and corresponding height was appreciated as I didn't think the 6'+ count was that high. On that note, I'm hoping RR's ability to recruit better/taller players at Michigan will allow him to expand the offense to include some good ole' Terrel/Edwards type stretch plays as well as slot ninja screens.

Like what was said earlier this guy is a big wide receiver and he will get playing time this year. Hopefully he will be a good blocker and can catch some deep routes.

It would be silly for Gordon to play this year. He is a big, slow WR whose best attribute is probably his ability to block. Ahead of him on the depth chart: 1. Mathews 2. Savoy 3. Hemingway 4. Stonum 5. Rogers 6. Roundtree (slot and WR) 7. Stokes (perhaps) There's no reason to burn both of our freshman WRs' redshirts, especially if our TEs are going to be more involved in the offense and we have a plethora of available slots.
