I don't know about that particular article, but previous posts have indicated that he was looking around, but that Fickell persuaded him to stay committed, at least for now.

"We talked for about 15 minutes," Kalis said. "His spirits were pretty high. He didn't want me to worry about him. He said, 'Now that I'm gone, I'm just one of those old guys.' He said that he only lives 12 miles away and I should stop and see him any time."
I feel like that is some kind of recruiting violation.

Why does it seem that kids who aren't 100% committed to OSU are afraid to say they aren't 100%? First Dunn, now Kalis. They mention being open and looking around and then a day later, they are solid again. I don't want to be a conspiracy theorist but it seems like they are scared to be open about being open to other options. Maybe OSU is being strict about wavering, trying to keep a good public image for recruits that all is well.

on channel 4 here in cbus was that "Luke Fickell got his first commit" and was teased over a video of a kid's highlight film before commercials.  After the break, the real story was that Kalis called to de-commit and then he re-committed after talking with Fickell for an hour, contingent on Fickell being the permanent coach when he enrolls.

Plenty of openings here for things to change.

On Scout, Kalis did say that he's committed to OSU after he spoke with Fickell but "only if Fickell becomes the full-time coach, otherwise I'll look elsewhere"...

NOTE: That's not verbatim but I'm not going back to find it

If I was the AD at tsio I would clean house.  There is no way that these assistants didn't have any idea about what has been going on.  Especially Fickell the guy was being groomed to take over for the vest.  Could be he said don't worry about what's going on with the NCAA.  We will be back to the way things have been as soon as they leave.

I'm guessing he was upset about Tressel's firing, and that his decision to decommit was a more a reflexive statement of protest than a hard decision not to play for them. There are kids who dream of playing for Michigan; there are kids who dream of playing for Ohio State.

There are kids who are open to a number of schools. This guy isn't one of them.

That's all as it should be.

Good luck to you, young man!

Here's the article, a buckeye co-worker sent after I was gloating about Tressel and the possibility of getting Kalis: it's practically the same as the one wrote on Cleveland.com

Kyle Kalis: “When my mom told me the news the first thing I thought was pure shock,” Kalis said. “I was furious. I had a deep missing feeling. My heart just plummeted. My head was spinning 100 miles per hour.
“I thought – ‘with Tressel gone I’m gone.’ I was going to call coach (Luke) Fickell and de-commit.”
Kalis waited until this afternoon to make the call to Fickell.
“I talked to him for an hour straight,” Kalis said. “By the time we were done I was super confident in him and Ohio State. I’m 100% Ohio State. After talking to him I forgot all about de-committing. Everything feels good. It’s like a weight is off my shoulders. Coach Fickell is Ohio State.
“Coach Fickell reminds me of coach Tressel, but if someone is messing up he will get after their butts. I fell in love with coach Fickell. I am really fired up.”
Kalis said at least 15 schools have been in contact already and he basically told them “we’ll see.”
However, Kalis now plans to have his coach tell all other schools, ‘thanks but no thanks.’
