Any Word on Jordan Diamond Lately?

Submitted by rockydude on

Pretty much what the title says - anyone hear anything about Jordan Diamond recently, or have an idea why the vibe between he and Michigan seems to have cooled off lately? He really seemed to be a good fit and a likely commit, but for reasons unknown to me, there has been a lowering of interest, either by Jordan or U-M.

Anyone hear any buzz about Jordan that might shed some light on this?

Jordan's continual refusal to commit early has probably led our coaches to look for other elite prospects and concentrate on them.

This happens every year with recruits and nothing to be worried about. If he wants to come, we'll take him. If he doesn't - we have others to look towards.

I think he slow played the process, and quite possibly, it cost him a spot on our team.  I think at one time, UM really wanted another top OL recruit, with Diamond's name the likely target.  The thing is, he wanted to drag it out and try and get "exposure" for his teammates, and that's when UM focused more on the two guys from Washington.  During this process, Diamond had months to commit to Michigan.  He never did -- how is that being slow played, and for that, I think Michigan has simply moved on.  I don't know what he expected our coaches to do, but with all the hype on him almost being a lock for Michigan, something happened.  And I'd be shocked if UM picked up another OL recruit now, and if they do, I'd be more shocked if it's Jordan Diamond.

That said, best of luck to him ... wherever he goes.

Well, I'd assume the coaches still want another OL in this class, and it's no certainty that we will land one of the Washington prospects. I really doubt he would have intentionally put his own situation in jeopardy to gain exposure for his teammates. He obviously wanted to go to Michigan, so I'm guessing the coaches told him that he would have to wait things out before they would accept his commitment.

I thought the coaches did not want anyone to commit during the season and that is what made him not pull the trigger, but their High School QB committed to Arkansas during the season. So, i am not sure why he did not commit when he had the chance.....

Cause I don't think the coaches want another OL.

I think moving A.J. Williams to OT, moving Brown to TE, speaks volumes on where they are with the two Washington recruits and Jordan Diamond.  Yea, I think they'd take one of them -- but only if they strike out with Diggs, Wright, Dunn, etc -- first.  And since those guys won't want to be the stand by option, it won't happen.  And you know what, that's okay, especially with A.J. Williams moving to the OL, which gives our class 6.  And you're making a bunch of assumptions on information that doesn't sound like what I have read.  Thing is, if Jordan Diamond wanted to be part of this class, he would have long before Kyle Kalis did so.  I see no proof of them slow playing Diamond, sorry.

I seem to remember him cooling off due to all the OL commits we had, especially Kalis. He wanted to take his time and our class filled up. I maintain that Hoke as identified OL recruits such as Banner and Diamond that they have one spot left and would take the first that wanted it. The Kali's commitment, if I remember right, was when Diamond cooled on UM. Somebody should be reidorating to him and his mom that Kalis projects better at guard due to his Tackle sized T-Rex Arms. Think of it this way, we will get one more elite OL commit.

Other than Moore, there are no TE on the roster who weigh 240 lbs or more next year and this offense likes to use lots of 2 TE sets.  Williams is a lock for TE despite the meme that he's an OL-tweener...  Maybe down the road a few years.

Disagree. First off, Ricardo Miller will be over 240 next year. Second, a TE doesn't have to weigh 240 to see the field. Lastly, if the coaches think Williams' future is at OT, they won't play him at TE for a year just 'cause.

Ace or tom VH say that we were done with o-line after the Drake signing? I couldve sworn I read that saying we needed other posistions way more than o- line now with only 4 or so spots left.

from a certain person that I will use the code name HVmoT, It sounds like he and coaches got their wires crossed. They are fully recruiting him and visited his school on the bye week. there is more to it but I'm not going to get anymore into paywalled content.

He'll probably end up going to whatever school he takes his last visit to.   Seems to be "blown away" by every campus he visits and that team is suddenly in the drivers seat.  He's a great talent but his thoughts are nearly impossible to predict.

Sorry.

I like competition, and these coaches will always play the best of the best, and if you don't want to compete for that - that's okay.

I'm actually okay if we don't take another OL.

already a comparable or better prospect to Diamond IMO and Blake Bars is only a step behind being coached by one of the NFLs all time top linemen in Kevin Mawae this year. Even though the recruiting services still list him low Braden said in a recent interview with TomVH that he's 6'7" and 325lbs and still looks trim. http://espn.go.com/video/clip?id=7178618 With Blake Bars and also Kyle Kalis being versatile enough to play both positions, and Williams growing into a Tackle in a few years, then I'm guessing they're hoping for an OG like Garnett anyways, especially after losing Posada recently.

Didn't Ace visit a game of Braden's and say that he seems to lack the nasty streak and elite quickness? I thought he mentioned that Braden is a great raw prospect the coaches are going to have to work on to sculpt into a good Olineman. My point is he seems a great prospect, but I don't know why you necessarily think he is better than Diamond besides the fact that he is committed to Michigan.

I appreciate the feedback.

I wasn't sure of his status, but it just seemed odd the way our buzz used to center around the guy, and then it seemed like he dropped off the map.

As several posters have said, all of the best to Jordan as he makes his decision . . .

I have a gut feeling that he's going to be a Razorback. He seemed to like his visit there, and his mom loved it IIRC.

He's still a viable option for us. There was a lot of miscommunication between both parties for a while. His Mother was under the impression that we stopped recruiting him, but then she found out that wasn't true. We're very close to the top for his services. I'm confident Michigan wants to take 6 linemen, and Diamond appears to be the most likely option.

Diamond was simply not sure what to do.  I think he has a lot of mixed feelings, and his family is adding to that.  I still think, if he decided to commit today, we would take him for sure.  But the coaching staff is not willing to keep all their eggs in one basket.

I know his mother is high on Arkansas but do we have any idea what he thinks about the school?  I know parents have an influence in the decision but in the end he's the one that will be attending the school, not his mom.  Besides, McGary's dad wanted him to go to Duke and look how that one turned out for us.

I don't see us getting him... I believe we have a better chance of getting banner and garnett. I love Diamond but I think it's a done deal with him, but if we get him I'll take it.
